Fungal ear infection- wrong spray- burns?!

Hi, I have a fungal ear infection- outer ear, confirmed through a swab. The gp prescribed me Canesten dermalogical spray, I’ve looked on the packet and it says for external use only and not to spray in ears. I only looked at that after spraying it in my ear- I had god awful burning sensation in my ear, bit of my neck and felt it in my throat. My question is, has anyone else been prescribed this before? I have googled and found a different Canesten product that is shaped like an ear droplet bottle which seems like that is what I should be taking. Has my dr / pharmacist prescribed the wrong thing or can this be used off label for your ear? I haven’t been able to see the dr yet due to Easter bank holidays

The spray should not be used in the ears.it contains something that stings.
Your ear should be fine though.
You need canesten solution which is in a dropper bottle.as you have worked out.
You can just buy canesten solution which may be quicker rather than waiting for GP surgery to sort out the correct item.

Thank you so much for replying, I am really grateful. So I don’t need a prescription to get the correct drops?

Ask the pharmacy OP, if it needs a prescription they'll tell you. My GP once wrote 3 different prescriptions for an ear infection, all for obsolete products. I was so ill with it and annoyed I'd had to return 4 times to get the right prescription.

It’s ridiculous isn’t it. Imagine if this stuff actually harmed my ear.

You can buy the correct drops from a pharmacy.
Not all pharmacies may have it in stock though.

What are the symptoms please? I have had itchy outer ears for ages now. The doctor prescribed and antibiotic spray ( no swab) and when I stop using it the itching resumes. I don’t know what it is and the spray shouldn’t be used a month after opening.

Hiya, my ear feels blocked, bit itchy and hearing completely gone, they did a swab and this black stuff came out , also some yellow/whitish discharge, the GP did say it can be any colour from white, yellow, green or black for fungal. The first two visits they gave me anti biotics which didn’t work, so then they actually bothered to test and it came back as fungal which is rarer apparently, I’ve rang up the GP again, I’ve got the right spray now, needless to say this GP is not happy with the original one who prescribed me athletes foot spray for my ear!
