Has anyone had a positive outcome after being told they have a nodule in their lung

I signed up to a lung CT scan screening and have been told I have a nodule on the lung. I have to go back after three months for another scan. I smoked for 40 years and immediately stopped when I got that result 5 weeks ago. Am so anxious now. Since I stopped smoking my cough has gone - no judgement please on the smoking. I think they are monitoring it but I haven't been given an appointment with a doctor to discuss it at all so trying to convince myself if it was bad they would have called me in to discuss. I wanted to know if nodules can go or should I prepare for more bad news.

My DF, he has been having it monitored for 3 years. No change.

My husband and I also had the lung scan, he was called and told he had a nodule in his chest cavity, not his lungs.
they called him back to have a MRI scan within a few weeks and he has an appointment next week to find out the results.
Everything is happening so fast that I’m really concerned. I would imagine if they deemed your nodule to be concerning they would have had you in quickly to investigate things further.
i do hope yours is something and nothing DM

I had two they found on a CT when I had a bad flare of my asthma/???long covid (early days when testing wasn’t very reliable). Rescanned after 6 months and they had gone. Seems they just shrank. Asthma settled down without intervention too. Respiratory doctor said it happens sometimes - plan was to monitor- if they grew past a certain size they may need surgery but mine went of their own accord.

I had a ct scan in 2019 (not lung related).

Obviously scans like this will pick up incidental findings and one of the things it flared up was a lung nodule, I do worry about it all the time but when I questioned it no one was concerned so I just carry on. That was 5 years ago and I seem ok….so fingers crossed.

My partner has a malignant nodule on his chest wall. Diagnosed almost two years ago, been on chemo ever since. At first it shrank a little, bit the last 6/9months no change. He's suffering from the chemo, wonders if it's worth it.

@Wowserme thank you for sharing. I hope you get good news at your appointment.

@NeurodivergentBurnout that's good to hear it's gone on its own. Must be a relief. I'm trying to be optimistic the same could happen.

deuxgarcons · 01/04/2024 23:52

@oprahwindsock I'm sorry to hear this, it must be difficult. Wishing you all the best and hope the chemo gets better.

My mum has a nodule on her lung, they monitored it every 3 months for a year, then annually now 5 yearly,

Icequeen01 · 02/04/2024 08:30

My DM sounds very similar to you, smoked for years but had not smoked for 10 years when a 10mm nodule was found in her lung after a non related scan picked it up. She was referred to a lung specialist who was unsure if it was cancerous or not but suggested she should have it removed. She had the op where it was found to be cancerous so surgeon removed the nodule along with part of her lung. It hadn't spread and we were told it was a stage 1 and was very slow growing. She didn't require chemo following the op. It's now 6 years on and apart from an annual check we forget she ever had it to be honest.

I had a CT scan when I had breast cancer to check rest of the body and it picked up something in the lungs but they said it would be from COVID and also had a nodule in the thyroid which they ignored, a boney island on hips which again ignored and a 3cm growth on adrenals which did get immediate further testing as they were concerned about cancer but wasn't cancer but maybe adrenal condition. If they are waiting 3 months they must just be monitoring and not categorised as urgent. Definitely keep up the stopping smoking though if you can, well done on stopping and fingers crossed it's benign.
