Mirena - is this normal?

Hi all,
Had a mirena fitted 2 weeks ago to try to sort heavy periods - this was on the advice of a gynaecologist. I have fibroids and suspected endometriosis. I was expecting the bleeding which has now turned into a light period - annoying but seems to be settling. What I wasn’t prepared for is the pain. I have almost constant low pelvic pain cramping that is radiating down my thighs. It isn’t hugely painful but enough to wake me up in the night and I’m taking constant pain killers.
Just wondering if this has been the same for others?
Threads seem to be in the right place and no signs of infection I don’t think 🤔

I had huge amounts of pain with mine. Honestly took 6 months to settle but wasn't constant. Even had mine checked to see if it was in tne right place.

I had significant constant dull aching pelvic pain after having mine fiitted. It's only just eased now 3 months later. If you're concerned your GP can arrange an ultrasound to make sure it's in the right position.

Would you say it was worth it? I’m starting to regret having this put in. Constantly taking pain killers and feel really teary

I've pretty much forgotten all about it now. I got mine so I can have oestrogen patches without having to take progesterone patches. I do still spot most days which is annoying- I'm going to persevere a while and hope that the spotting settles. I haven't noticed any effect on my mood fortunately.

I had a Mirena coil fitted. No pain and best of all no periods. I did get some spots and some breast tenderness and enlargement at first (really good if you're already a 34k....) but they settled down within a couple of months. Best thing since sliced bread for me.

I'm still deciding tbh. Though I think some of the pain is because I'm ovulating now after years and years of being on the pill. Same with mood swings. Though that could be peri. So I have no idea what to blame on the coil!

The pain is definitely better than it was at the beginning though. I pretty much don't think about it now but I'm not sure I'll get another when the time comes.

Turns out this was NOT normal. Had to go to the hospital last night as I could feel strings lower than they were. Doctor confirmed it was hanging out of my cervix. The pain was my womb contracting and rejecting the coil. Back at square one now to find another solution to heavy bleeding and fibroids

Push to get your fibroids treated! I tried just about every possible treatment (including the mirena from hell) but all they're doing is treating the side effects and symptoms of the fibroids, not the root cause of the problem. The difference in treatment of the actual fibroids has literally been life changing compared to what they fobbed me off with for a couple of years.

Gosh I just read your response, how awful for you., glad it is sorted.

Just found out I will only see the gynae again in September now that my case is no longer urgent (I was fast tracked due to a raised tumour marker). Just feels like forever to wait when you have pain and horrific periods. Especially when I waited months for the initial scan. What treatment did you have?

I had uterine artery embolisation but the treatment options seem to depend on where your fibroids are and how large they are. I’ll admit that I used private medical cover provided through work as I was getting nowhere with the NHS and after months wait for animal consultation they had another 6 month wait just for a hysteroscopy and they wouldn’t do anything without that! That was before Covid so goodness knows what it is now.

I’ve had the scans and hysteroscopy but follow up is now the bottom of the pile as no longer urgent. Hoping the GP can at least give me something to try between now and September but the treatment you had is the one I’d be hoping for
