I am very active and eat a balanced diet.My work involves a lot of walking and generally I am on the go all day long.

I started doing pilates few months ago and weighed myself yesterday.I have gained weight!!
The thing is, the clothes that were once tight on me, now fit me nicely and I can feel my body toning up but just don't understand how I have gained weight.

What am I doing wrong?I am 43 so know it's harder to shift weight.

I could be wrong, but I think it is because you are gaining muscle, which even if it weighs the same as fat takes up less space, hence you're more toned.

Why are you measuring your weight? Plates isn't designed to reduce your fat it's for flexibility / creating muscle. Muscle is heavier but takes up less space so that's why you don't see the bulk of it

A pound of muscle has less bulk than a pound of fat. Use a tape measure if you want to track progress, not scales.

You're not doing anything wrong, you said yourself that your clothes are fitting better and you're toning up. Don't worry about your weight. Strength and fitness is what counts.

Why are you bothered what the scales say if you are more toned and your clothes fit better?

Pilates isn't a weight loss exercise and doesn't burn many calories, so there's no reason why doing pilates should make you more surprised about gaining weight.
It is such a brilliant exercise though! I have taken it up aged 60 and it is a revelation to explore the changed posture and movement that it facilitates.

As to the question why you haven't lost weight, you say you eat a balanced diet. That is great but wouldn't necessarily have the calorie deficit rquired to lose weight. And activity alone won't cause a weight loss.
