Really painful gland under jaw for over a week, should I go to GP?

A week ago I woke up with a temp and pain under my jaw just on the left side - the position is kind of in a straight line down from where my earlobe meets my face. The next day the temperature had gone, but the lower part of my face had puffed up, and was still feeling generally unwell.

Now a week later the puffiness has gone down quite a lot, but the pain is still there. The pain was bad enough that I was taking cocodamol and ibuprofen for 5 days, but have stopped as it bunged me up so now I am just taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. I still feel very tired and of colour l, and wierdly I now seem to have a swollen gland in my right armpit

Should I go to the GP or just ride it out? From googling it looks like it could be mumps, but is there anything else it could be that could require antibiotics?

Just to add, I though at first it was tonsilitis, but my tonsils and throat look fine. I'm also pretty sure it's not dental as nothing looks or feels amiss in my mouth!

I’ve had a swollen gland under my ear/jaw for about 6 months went to drs after about a month of it… told me to monitor it and come back if it’s still not gone. My drs are pretty good and they are finally sending me for an ultrasound to double check, but aren’t overally worried it’s basically for my peace of mind. I would ride it out tbh

I’m also not Ill with a cold or anything. It basically hasn’t gone back after having one 6months ago

Hi, friend.of mine had this issue and they found stones in the salivary glands

Glandular fever?

MassiveOvaryaction · 26/03/2024 17:41

Mumps?

As it's gone on more than a week I'd say calling GP is the way to go.

My dad had salivary stones and had an incident where he turned into a hamster when trying to eat a bacon sandwich

I dont think it's salivary stones as the pain and swelling doesn't react to food/salivation

I hadn't thought of glandular fever
