Did this need a stitch?

Stuck a very sharp knife into my hand late Saturday night.
Thought it might need a stitch, but wasn't prepared to sit in a and e for hours!
I put paper stitches on it and small dressing, still hurting quite badly, I know it's too late now though😐 asking for next time, as undoubtedly I will do it again 😂

No I wouldn't have thought so. Keep it dry and clean and it should heal quickly

SayFuckTheLemonsAndBail · 26/03/2024 00:48

I don't think so. You might want to get some strips from the pharmacy to keep it closed though.

JanglingJack · 26/03/2024 00:53

I would have said absolutely to a couple of steri strips or glue.

Why did you photograph it initially?

You can get steri strips from a pharmacy but they don't use them in hospitals any more.

TurqoiseJasper · 26/03/2024 04:54

Took a pic for my son who insisted on seeing it...... I stuck it in quite deep.
Anyway it's got steristrips on but still bleeding a bit and throbbing quite badly.
I didn't think it needed one which is why I didn't bother 😂

Actually is the glue available to buy in a pharmacy? I thought it was only used in hospitals. Would be handy to have at home!

Steri strips to pull it together in a cross shape. Plaster and paracetamol.

keep it rested don’t pull at it and rest it

whyhere · 26/03/2024 07:24

Manuka honey on it if it gets infected.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/03/2024 07:29

OP are you OK?

It's just that you say you stuck a knife in your hand, you stuck it in quite deep, and will undoubtedly do it again.

Was it an accident?

Manuka honey on it if it gets infected.

Or, you know, seek actual medical advice instead, unless you know and understand what Kanavel's signs are, or what a deep palmar infection might look like.

whyhere · 26/03/2024 12:18

😂

PatFussy · 26/03/2024 12:20

My son had a cut like this on his forehead and it had to be glued internally and externally. I think I'd at least ask a pharmacist if nothing else.

Greybeardy · 26/03/2024 12:28

only a mere anaesthetist here, but have passed many a happy hour watching surgeons sort out gammy hand wounds in theatre - I'd have a pretty low threshold for getting that looked at. Definitely wouldn't be gluing it or putting kitchen supplies in it!

If it's still bleeding after 12+ hours it needs looking at properly! Go to urgent care.

Oh dear😂😂
Thanks for your concern, I stuck it in deep accidentally whilst trying to cut a potato!
I have rheumatoid arthritis and have not the best hand strength so that is why I'm rather cack handed!
I really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near sharp utensils 😂😂

We superglue wounds like that in our house and have had no problems .

FelicityBeedle · 26/03/2024 17:11

I cut mine a few years ago along this line, maybe 7-10mm deep at its worst point. They X-rayed for glass but didn’t stitch, just four steri strips and a plaster. You can just about see the scar in the photo. If it’s throbbing I would maybe err on the side of caution and go to the urgent treatment centre if you’ve got one
