Bad memory and communication issues

Recently I've noticed I seem to be struggling with communicating and not able to find or remember words to communicate effectively unless I write them down. This is affecting my work as I can't seem to think on my feet anymore and becoming more silent in meetings. I run out of ideas, this wasn't the case years ago. My memory is so bad now, I'm not sure what to do. A couple of years ago I had benign intercranial hypertension and fluid was drained from my body. I was discharged and asked to take acetazolomide, I was fine and my brain functioned perfectly as I was still my normal self. I sometimes get some weird sensation in my head now but. I am 43 this year if that helps. I'm not sure if it's worth going to see the GP because I can't even articulate the problem. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Stress? Menopause?

ShrubRose · 23/03/2024 03:22

I would go to the GP. The benign intercranial hypertension was a few years ago, and you're having symptoms. Good idea to update things. Let them run some tests and see what can be done.

Thanks @Labbydood I'll look into it. To be honest the whole thing is really stressing me out

Menopause can be a factor. I'm a bit older than you and had word finding difficulties on and off for a while (am post menopausal and it improved when I started HRT).

It's got loads worse since I had covid the last time (I've got an assessment with the long covid clinic soon but have been told I almost certainly have it).

It is distressing and makes you feel like such a fool. I'm sorry it's happening to you too @aifai Flowers

I'm late 30s and saw GP for essentially the same reason earlier. Not sure whether it's fortunate or not but no cause has been found but I was surprised at how seriously it was taken and the different tests that were run. I was worried I was time-wasting.
