MSTG... Only just seen this but just wanted to add that if you are very short-sighted (more than about -10 or so, I think... not sure exactly) these are more worrying than if you're not. I am very short-sighted (about -12 in one eye and -14 in the other, with a bit of astigmatism thrown in for good measure) and when I developed floaters the optician did a check on my retina (it involves drops to dilate the pupil so the optician can get a good look at the retina and you can't see properly for about an hour or so afterwards, so don't drive to the appointment!) because if you're very short-sighted the shape of your eyeball stretches the retina more than in a normal-shaped eyeball and the retina is more prone to become detached. Having said that, mine was fine and that was 6 years ago now (can date it precisely because had just had dd2 at the time) and have had no problems, although I do notice the floaters more at some times than others.

I've got these too - mentioned to optician who had a good look and assured me they were harmless but a pain in the arse.

apparently a large percentage of UFO 'sightings' can be put down to these floaty bits
