Please check my blood results?

I am absolutely shattered beyond belief.

I have suffered with anemia in the past a lot. Usual symptoms like I have now. Also have had a blood transfusion.

My blood tests say no action required.

Could someone tell me if they are low or okay?

I am under the impression that my ferritin although is in the okay bracket is still low?

Yes ferritin is lower than ideal, if you're not actually anaemic (would need a haemoglobin result as well) get an over the counter iron supplement or speak to your GP regarding the symptoms and they might prescribe.

Thelongrunisgine · 17/03/2024 21:23

Just glancing at them your haemoglobin and ferritin are both low. GP might say normal but you will feel crap (as you do)

itsgettingweird · 17/03/2024 21:27

My ferritin was 6 but iron on 148.

I felt terrible.

So with your iron being slightly low and ferritin quite low I'd suggest trying an iron supplement like spartone.

Quackquacky · 17/03/2024 21:30

Ferritin and HB borderline. Definitely look at your diet, increase green vegetables and red meat if not vegetarian.

FloofCloud · 17/03/2024 21:32

Remember to increase your vitamin C too as it helps to absorb iron

bloodytiredsigh · 17/03/2024 21:33

I already take an iron supplement. I'm vegetarian so probably doesn't help. I have really heavy periods though.

Do you think I should call and just ask for some ferrous sulphate seeming as I have symptoms?

Haemoglobin is 121 x

Your ferritin is low. This could be causing your tiredness. I would buy ferrous fumarate from an online pharmacy - and take one tablet every other day (recent studies show this is more effective than taking more frequently)

Obviously do discuss results with your GP too.

GP has just stated 'no further action' on these! I had a similar result in August for blood test also due to being exhausted

Green leafy veg, plenty of pulses, consider an iron supplement (whichever suits your bowels best!). All within normal range, but ferritin lower end.

I have low ferritin and iron too, can I ask, do you have problems with your hair ? Hair loss, brittle hair, doesn’t grow etc. I’m trying to establish if my levels are what’s effecting my hair so much so would be interested to hear

Yes to all of that.

Do you mind if I jump on this thread and ask a question too. My folate and b12 levels are low so been prescribed folic acid but they’ve never done iron. I’ve had this before. I’m permanently shattered!

tobee · 17/03/2024 23:58

My haemoglobin levels were depleted and unable to get back to good levels because of the repeated impact of my extremely heavy periods. Iron tablets helped a bit after 6 months but in the end went for the nuclear option and had a hysterectomy.

Sorry @bloodytiredsigh I didn't see the second photo! 🙈
