CRP high - no explanation

Thank you for taking the time to read. I was admitted to hospital for a few days with high CRP of 240 and was given IV antibiotics with suspected colitis/IBD. CT scan showed inflammation in the bowel, had a colonoscopy which showed no inflammation or any concerns.

My bloods were not repeated to see whether the CRP rate had decreased, should I ask for them to be repeated? I’m concerned now what could have raised the CRP and why the CT scan showed inflammation which wasn’t there. Is there any other tests I should ask for? Sorry, my GP is very dismissive and want to ensure I do the right follow up request.

Iirc colonoscopy only screens large bowel, so any inflammation in small intestine wouldn't be visible, unless right at the junction. Did your discharge letter from hospital not say anything about follow up?

Thank you for replying. Said no follow up needed. So I’m thinking I’ll have to do it myself, asking the GP for my CPR to be retested. If it’s still high, not sure whether to ask for another CT scan (as original one was just urethra, bladder and kidneys, as they thought it was kidney stones).

Have your symptoms resolved?

Hey. I have Crohns and colitis so some experience.

CRP that high needs looking at but as far as I understand does not necessarily mean anything awful bit you could have an infection.

Yes it should be retested.

How are you feeling ?

A scan is often needed to identify small bowel issues.

Don't let them off the hook !

I hope you feel better soon Flowers

If your symptoms are better now there is really no reason to retest. You had some kind of infection (which would cause the rasied CRP level) for which you had antibiotics. CRP levels go down when the infection resolves.
If you are still unwell then absolutely go to your GP for follow up but if you are well now then there is no need.

I still have bleeding when I go to the toilet and pain in my hip and back (the excruciating pain in my abdomen has subsided since the antibiotics). Should I not request a re test of the CRP? As I’m feeling better than I was. What sort of infection would I have had at that level?
