No medical emergency. Little Liahgen (10 mths)came out with one spot yesterday, has more today and since this afternoon been coming out with more.

Question is, she's supposed to being christened on Sunday, is that time enough for her to be ok?
Everyone coming is fine with it, but am just wondering if she'll be feeling ok, don't want to overwhelm her if she's out of sorts.

Any advice on length of illness
tia

my DD (age 2) spots started on monday morning with one or two, she is now plastered with them but not complaining. Apparently once the spots have crusted over they aren't infectious anymore which takes about 3 - 4 days. If she's feeling ok I'd say go for it... mines currently dancing around to the Time Warp with her sisters. Mind you if my DD is anything to go by she won't look too good in the christening photos.

yeah, when my other 4 had it, they were all covered in em. Digital photography is excellent these days thopugh isn't it? lol

thanks

ds had the pox when he was 7 weeks old, he was grumpy 4 days before the spots came out, it took a week for all the blisters to appear and then they started to crust, but other than the spots (and he was covered it them) he was fine. go for calamine cream (boots one is good) rather than lotion, the lotion slops everywhere, where as the cream can be applied more accurately, less mess!

am I right in thinking I can't use piriton until 1 yr?

Don't know but Medised has antihistamens (pardon the spelling) and you can use that from 3 months I think... let me check

BigBadMouse · 26/03/2008 22:10

Theres no way of telling I think. IME some get it really badly, high temps etc etc and others just have the spots and nothing else. They say that generally you get several 'flushes' of spots over the course of 3-4 days (i.e after the 4th day you don't get any new spots and just have to wait for them all to heal) but I have known that to be 2-3 days with a lot of children so you might be almost spot-free by Sunday with some luck on your side.

If you are BF still and have had CP yourself she is likely to only get a mild dose.

BigBadMouse · 26/03/2008 22:11

Yep, Piriton is for over 1s.

liahgen · 26/03/2008 22:12

oh yeah, hadn't thought of that. Yes am still feeding. so maybe medised instead of pure piriton then.

Thanks ladies, last cp was 2 yrs ago.

Yep Medised for 3 months and onwards. We covered my DD in Sudocreme as she said it worked better than the calamine lotion... if only I'd know about calamine cream it would have saved a lot of screaming "It's cold Mammy!"

liahgen · 26/03/2008 22:15

well she can't talk so I won't get that.

I remember putting the closed bottle of calamine in the bath with the older ones then applying it befor bed.

AH good idea and give her baths in Bicaronate of Soda! That works a treat... I used to have load of allergic reactions when I was small and that's what my mother used to do to me, it was the first thing she said when I told her DD has chicken pox

SleepIsForTheWeak · 26/03/2008 22:31

use Bicarb in the bath water too, soothes the itching
