Is there a link between asthma and eczema?

I vaguely remember hearing this once before, and now ds has both asthma and eczema.

So, is there a known link, and if so, does a flare up of one generally mean a flare up of the other?

And if so, does the severity of the attacks also correspond?

Or am I talking shite?

I have heard this, not sure if it's definitely true but, ds's dad has asthma and ds had quite bad eczema as a baby.

Your poor ds, i hope they're mild and he grows out of both conditions.

There is link between the two and hayfever. I have all 3, although the asthma is worse, the eczema mild and the hayfever seasonal.

In some they both flare up at the same time, but not in others. When my hayfever is REALLY bad either my asthma or eczema is horrendous. But that isn't always the case when my asthma is bad.

My friend has astham and eczema and neither get worse or flare up at the same time.

Yes there is a link. If a child is atopic they can get both asthma and excema (and hay fever).

I was told this when I went for allergy tests at the hospital. Apparently there is a link between asthma, eczema, hayfever and allergies generally ... I have the allergies, hayfever and v mild asthma .. but fortunately so far no eczema! I don't know about severity or flare ups though I am afraid.

right, thanks all.

He generally has an asthma attack in the middle of the night, so I was just wondering whether I would be able to reliably predict when one is likely by the state of his eczema.

Will wait and see how he is in the summer - it sounds like he will perhaps be prone to hayfever as well...
