Hello
I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful advice for dealing with my eternally "fed up" ten and a half yr old dd! The only thing I can now think of is putting it down to hormones. She goes up and down like a yo-yo, but on the whole seems so down. Crying a lot. We've tried everything in our power.......wondering if there is a vitamin/some kind of supplement that might help her? TIA

Have you taken her to see the GP?

nic06 · 26/03/2008 20:27

No we haven't been to the GP. I have mentioned it to her, but she goes into panic, thinking that I'm having a go at her I think. Do you think it's worth it then?

I would take her to see the GP. Maybe it's just puberty getting her a bit early. It's worthwhile getting it checked though. I think the supliments are for adults so the GP may be able to prescribe something a bit more child friendly. It's worth a try. Good luck. Hormones, what a nightmare!

Maybe you're right - I just need to broach it in the right way with her so that she doesn't feel it's her fault! Thanks for your advice, we are just feeling at the end of our tether after a bad day with her (yep, another one!).

It's a natural thing, we all go through it, then we forget . I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. Keep bumping your thread incase someone with more knowledge turns up.

Bump.........please does anyone else have any words of wisdom??

Have you tried going into the health food shop and asking them? Hold on, might have a book.....

It's just for adults. You could try a herbalist, they should be able to give you some advice.

Thanks very much for looking. You can probably tell from my perseverance that this is getting us all down now! I don't even know whether this is normal hormonal behaviour (can't remember back that far!!) but I feel like a rubbish mum after the day we've had, and not sure it's healthy to carry on like this. All we want is for her to be happy, and she says there is nothing wrong, but you only have to ask what day of the week it is and she's crying really sad tears

My 10.5yo has been very stressed lately. In her case it's a combination of raging pre-teen hormones and some general worries about school, growing up, friends etc.

We took her to see our GP about something else last week and "just mentioned" the anxieties. Talking about it to an independent third party helped her a lot, and although she can still be moody, her fears have been less irrational.

Might be worth a try?

My sympathies, it's v hard dealing with hormone-ridden children who don't know what's happening to them

Re supplements, I sometimes give my DDs a vitamin supplement from Nature's Best

Thanks, so hopefully I'm not the only one who feels like I'm a bit of a failure at the moment! Coming round to the idea of the doctors, and will check the link out that you added.
