My dh is very low range healthy weight .Cholesterol levels all within normal range. The GP has written that it is abnormal that my husband has refused statins. Why has the G.P. written this?

Cholesterol 4.9
HDL 2.0
LDL 2.5
Non density lipoprotein 2.9

DH is annoyed, doesn't want to take them.

Thank you.

How old is he? It’s quite usual for older people with a higher Q risk to be offered prophylactic statins

Is he a smoker, does he have diabetes or hypertension or family history of CVD?

Veggieburgers · 09/03/2024 16:21

If he doesn't want to take them, then that's his decision. Maybe he has read "The Cholesterol Con' by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick.

It's not just the level of cholestrol they look at it's other risk factors. Google Qrisk.
I was very reluctant mainly because I take so many essential drugs but also because I don't have high cholestrol but I do have high risk. I want to know I will feel better if I take a drug. In the end I agreed to a very low dose. I don't actually take it every day and it has still massively reduced my cholestrol.
It's never compulsory.

Husband has no risk factors ,although he is 66.

I wouldn't take them either. They do precious little of any good. They can definitely lower your energy level and if you are hypothyroid you shouldn't take them. Check out Dr Malcolm McKendrick as a pp says.
