Dental abscess, extraction and now this???

DD 10 has had some real issues with a baby tooth that didn’t want to come out. She had a cavity and a filling, something happened and she developed a gum abscess. Antibiotics and it drained by itself but then came back … dentist recommended an extraction and this was done yesterday… I was expecting some soreness and swelling but DD’s lip has started to swell and this has come up inside 😢.

Does anyone know if it will wait till Monday to be seen or if I need to get her an emergency appointment? If so is the dentist or the doctor she needs to see. Thank you.

I would get an emergency appointment x

She's bitten her lip/the area while she's still been numb from the local anaesthetic. Warm salty water mouth washes, letting it puddle over the traumatised area for as long as she can manage. Regular pain relief , alternate ibuprofen appropriately with paracetamol. (Assuming she can take ibuprofen that is).
Keep fingers out of mouth as that is introducing more bacteria into an area with an existing wound.

Dentist
And Monday morning ring for appointment.
Take photo tomorrow

Clean fingers to retract the lip for photos to show the dentist

Thank you! Her fingers are not as filthy as they look… she has been experimenting with black nail varnish🤦‍♀️

Dark nail polish all the way.
Another dentist here. She's bitten her cheek whilst she was numb. Painkillers, soft food, mouthwash or warm salty water to rinse the area with but don't start until 24 hours after the extraction.
It will heal by itself but will be sore.

Another dentist here - agree that she has bitten her lip whilst numb. It can look quite dramatic. Be reassured that it will get better by itself but will be sore over the next few days.
