Parathyroid Hormone Test

I have high adjusted calcium levels (6.6) and have just had the results of my PH test (14.6) My GP stressed that this is significantly higher then the top of the normal range (9), and he has referred me to endocrinology. I didn't ask what units of measurement were used-does anyone know how high 14.6 is, please? And if anyone had similar results, what happened next? I'm in the UK.

I don't know about the measurements but I had high levels of parathyroid hormone about 8 years ago. I eventually had to have surgery to remove 3 of my parathyroid glands. I think it's quite tricky surgery for the surgeon but relatively minor for the patient - just overnight in hospital and a few days recovery at home. The surgery scar was small and almost invisible after a few months.
Waiting for the surgery was the worst part!
There's information on hyperparathyroidism on the NHS website here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hyperparathyroidism/
Hopefully the endicronologists can get to the bottom of this for you soon.

Hyperparathyroidism

Find out about hyperparathyroidism, where the parathyroid glands produce too much parathyroid hormone.

That's really helpful, thank you-it may be a few months, fingers crossed I'll be lucky!

I had this as well and needed one of my parathyroid glands removed. Was overnight stay in hospital and a week or so at home.

I had a few ultrasound scans and a Sestamibi scan before having the surgery as they couldn’t find the little bugger.

You should get a DEXA scan as well to check your bone density.
