High ferritin

My husbads sister phoned him up to tell him to get tested for hemochromatosis as she has just been told she has it.
He had bloods done and the doctor is phoning tomorrow (was told today that would be happening).
He has looked on his NHS app and this was the only result that was not normal.
Obviously he will find out more tomorrow but just thought I'd ask what it could be here in the meantime.

Yes that's a high value indeed, although some folks aren't diagnosed until they are at 2,000 or 3,000! I'd say that definitely needs investigating, especially as it's in the family. The sooner he starts getting treated the less likely damage will be done to organs. The other stat to look at is the transferrin saturation, could also be high.

I guess he will find out tomorrow what the GP wants to do with this, he is very worried not really about the hemochromatosis but if its something else.

Haha no worries, I get those comments quite frequently myself.

@Iamme1980 I saw your update, wrt your husband, on the other thread.

I certainly would not be waiting another month without action from the gp, especially as his sister has been dx with haemochromatosis.

Do take the squeaky wheel approach, sadly necessary in the current climate. Good luck.

Further info should you require

Just thought I would give an update, husband has seen a specialist and so far has had more bloods taken, a liver scan and a liver biopsy done.
He is awaiting the results of all these now.
