If so why? Is it really neccecary? Will the symptoms caused by them resolve naturally as they get older..... or get worse?
Ds is 3 and has from very young suffered with mild sleep apnoea (resulting in awful sleep routine).... always has been snuffly, is quite nasel in speech and more recently seems to get bad throat inf with EVERY cold he gets. Dr's want to do some sleep studies on him but feel he will probably need his adenoids out at some point pre school. I am a great believer in avoiding surgery where ever possible..... just interested in any opinions really.

my dd was the same and forever had tonsillitis-she had tonsils and adenoids out aged 2 and has been a different child since.
I was very reticent about operating on her so young but once the surgeon actually advised it (after telling me she never operated so young unless absolutely necessary) I wnet with it.
Piece of cake and a much happier dd.

One downside though-becasue her quality of sleep is now much better-she needs less of it....

DS had his adenoids out for glue ear issues. He has had glue ear consistently since he was a baby. He was going to have his second lot of grommets (and therefore surgery) anyway and the doctor's recommended it so we went along with it. I am not sure whether the adenoids made any difference but the grommets have done every time. In fact, the fact that he has subsequently had t-shaped grommets points to the fact that the adenoidectomy failed to cure the problem.

DS had already had two operations by the time he was 3 1/2 and had this one which might have made a difference to how we felt. He has had two more since.

Whoosh..... less sleep i think i can cope with, as long of my quality of sleep improves as well! Did it not scare you pre surgery, the thought of aneasthetics terrifies me!

It did scare me but probably not as much as the 42 degree fevers she used to regualrly get-oh and ear infections too.

I can't pretend it was a pleasant experience but all in all it really wasn't bad and I would do it again in the blink of an eye.

That said, lots of children do grow out of it-dd had the largest tonsils the surgeon had seen and once she removed the adenoids she said the same of them.

When DS had his first operation at 11 months (for a growth on his face) that scared me. It is not nice on any occasion - but a 3 1/2 yo did seem a lot more robust than a baby.

Actually though that operation was the hardest work of the 5 because DD was a 3mo totally breastfed baby. So we went to the hospital as a family.....
