Hi! I noticed this on my chest in the last 2 weeks or so. I went to a dermatologist on the 1st of Feb and it wasn't there then so I know it appeared sometime between then and roughly 2 weeks ago. A doctor, nurse and pharmacist have diagnosed it as a fungal infection but after 3 days the treatment doesn't seem to be doing anything! I'm worried about SCC since it feels like it's got a slight depression upon touch. It doesn't seemed to have grown in 2 weeks but has potentially gotten lighter. It's not itchy or sore but I have no idea what it could be... thank you from a very worried mama :(

Ringworm

Goforitagain · 01/03/2024 20:18

I also think ringworm and you have to put the cream on for 2 or 3 weeks, I did when I had it.

Mamachats · 01/03/2024 20:20

I'm not sure...it doesn't have the classic "ring" as you would get from ringworm. It's been diagnosed as a fungal infection but it's a single patch and not itchy. I don't hang around when it comes to my skin but I'm going out of my mind as it doesn't seem to be changing after a few days of treatment...

Fungal stuff takes ages to get better, three days on an anti-fungal is nothing. It’s certainly not cured in the same timeframe as you’d expect from antibiotics, for example.

Mamachats · 01/03/2024 20:33

I'm just not convinced it's fungal though...I'm also worried about leaving it for 10 days in total (so another 6-7) incase it is something more sinister. Just seems strange to have a fungal infection on the chest (not somewhere typical for fungal infections from what I've read) and just have a single patch. I'm more curious to know if anyone recognises an ailment like this and/or has had a different diagnosis.

DH had something very similar-looking on his shin, it was diagnosed as some sort of fungal thing and he was given ointment to put on. It took around 9 months to get rid of it.

Oh wow! 9 months is a long time. How did it present? Single patch or all over?

@Mamachats Just a fingernail-sized patch on his leg.
