Eye test for 15 y/o

So my daughter 15 went for an eye test after 1.5 years, and we got charged. Optometrist said something about she is due for check every two years, and not due one till Sept. Is this the case, I thought under 16s could get a test every year?

I did have her tested and since the prescription was the same she charged me for the test. She said had it changed it would have fallen under NHS. Any insight?

Go back and query it.
It's not to do with if the prescription has changed or not. It's to do with her age

Thanks I did this morning but optometrist had put her on a 2 year review apparently and that's that apparently NHS guidelines so.

Apparently the test is free still if you bring them back with symptoms like a regular headache but with no prescription changes unless there is a reason for an early test you pay

My 2 had an eye test annually until age 16 but that was what the optician had put as the recall date. I'm in Scotland and we don't get charged for eye tests so I don't know if that makes a difference

Under 16 it's usually 1 year, but it depends on the local NHS authority. They won't pay the practice for tests done unless they match their guidance.
I would definitely confirm with the practice, it's very area dependent.

It was done as a few opticians years ago were putting people on too frequent a recall, but as sight test fees rarely even cover the cost of the appointment (a bit like dentists) it's unlikely to happen now. It's ended up meaning that people who have an eye issue can't be seen so easily when they need to be.

If you do have an urgent issue you need to say to your opticians that you have sight problem and they will be able to see you. Alternatively, you can see your GP and they can refer you to an optometrist and we have a code for that too.
