Tingly fingers - what is causing this?

The tip of my left ring finger is completely numb and the tips of the baby and middle finger on the same hand are tingly - like pins and needles. My entire left hand doesn't feel quite right to be honest.

For about 10 years now I've had what I call 'arm pain'. My left arm, shoulder and side of my body get really achy - like growing pains when you're a child for lack of a better description. This feeling comes and goes and it's hard to pinpoint what sets it off or what makes it stop. When it's at its worst, my left hand goes entirely cold and it feels heavy - like it has no strength.

This permanent numbness in fingers and constant tingling is a new thing though. Any ideas what the hell is causing this?

I get that. I have been diagnosed - after having this since I was about 19 - with Fibromyalgia. The pain in your arm sounds very similar to what I get. I get it in my forearm, legs, feet, hands, shoulder and get numbness in my fingers. Does it feel like its in the muscle, as opposed to teh joints?
Best mention it to your doc though, as so many things ahve similar symptoms

Same here, same diagnoises as Saltire, mine started with my hands.

[sorry hijack]

Saltire how are you love?

What is Fibromyalgia??? Any idea what causes it and is there some way to treat it? Finally, did your regular GP diagnose it or did you have to see a specialist?

And to answer your question, yes the pain feels more like it's in the muscle or possibly even inside the bones itself - not the joints. It's just a deep ache. It got so bad about 6 years ago that I thought it might have something to do with my heart as it was so centered on my left side and arm but my heart was absolutely fine. Will go google fibromyalgia.

I'm pretty sure they don't know what causes fibromyalgia and there is no cure. Just painkillers.

No there is no known cure for FM, and both Saltire and I had a long road to have it diagnoised.

It can also affect your sleep, for most people, it can mean waking feeling that you havnt slept at all, or for some (like me) I getto sleepdead to the world for about 4 hours then awake and cant get back to sleep.

Go see your Dr. and ask him to look at FM.

My own Dr. admitted she knew very little about it (I was Dx by a Rheumatoligist), but has done a lot of reading up and has been brilliant.

Hi Shoshe - haven't "seen" you around for ages. I'm not too bad, doing my ICP or DHC or whatever it's called, only 2 more weeks ot go. Still working just now, but it is a bit of a struggle at times, and I'm bored, I miss the children! How are you?

JoshandJamie - Google Fibromyalgia, or there is a good link here.

Not to bad, although the sleep issue has been awful, luckily I had a totally free long weekend so slept off and on and have managed to catch up a bit.

DH has been away for the last month and was home for the weekend, but allhe saw was his wife asleep on the sofa

he is away again now till 2nd week of April.
