Help!!!!
Hit me with your remedies for soothing and itch. I was bitten 9 days ago at the bottom of my shin and wow the itching is unbearable! It’s so red and painful and I’m getting no sleep. Seen the doc today who insisted it’s not infected.

Can anyone who has had a horsefly bite before tell me when the itch will start to go? I currently want to rip my leg off 😩

My only experience of this was that I was given antibiotics. My foot was a bit swollen though. Most bite symptoms go in 4-5 days, any longer and I think you need treatment. I’d go back to doc

Hot tea spoon was recommended here and really worked for me.
Heat spoon in hot water and place back of spoon on the bite for as long as you can bear.

Oregano oil works for me

Try taking an antihistamine like you would for hay fever, that can help with the itching of insect bites. The important thing with horsefly bites is to watch for infection.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/02/2024 23:31

Have you taken an antihistamine? You can take more than one if the itching is really bad.

Synergies · 26/02/2024 23:36

Antihistamine for sure.

Where I'm from we use a product called After Bite for gross itchy bites. Other popular remedies are toothpaste (really) or a baking soda/water paste.

Horseflies in Feb? That’s unusual. Sure it wasn’t a spider bite or some else?

Second this!

Did you actually see the fly that bit you? Blandford flies can come out early depending on the weather, and it has been very mild. I've seen them in February before. They also tend to fly low to the ground and bite legs etc. Very nasty bites.

No I’m not sure it was a horsefly. Just looks like it when I’ve looked at pics online. Maybe it wasn’t then. Who knows. All I know is that it hurts a lot 🥺

Antihistamine, whichever.
