Can a cold affect eyesight???

Mammyofonlyone · 23/02/2024 16:32

Just that really! I've had a cold/cough for about a week and in the last few days my eyesight has really been affected.

I have a prescription for very mild glasses which I never wear as I don't feel like I need them.

My vision is really blurry (for me) both up close and with things far away.

I've googled it but it didn't really tell me much. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thank you

I am just getting over Covid and have this too. Had it last time too - but it was a couple of weeks after initial symptoms.

Yes just getting over this virus and my eyes were one of the things affected.
Extreme tiredness
Congestion
Cough
Sore throat
Sore tongue.
Mouth ulcers

It can, because you're possibly secreting more tears to fight the virus, and the tears are forming a sort of a gel as a result of blocked ducts. Is the fuzziness worse in the morning or any particular time of day? Is it worse after a lot of screen time?

Use a washcloth with warm water as a compress a few times a day.

If your eyes are itchy and red too, you may have pink eye.

Interesting. About two weeks ago I had such painful ulcers that I struggled to eat without significant pain, yet Ive never had ulcers before

That would make sense. The closest thing I can link the sensation to is when my eyes water in the wind then I blink to clear away the tears and see clearly again, except blinking doesnt work

Call 111 for reassurance/guidance and take it from there
you can consider an optician visit tomorrow and eyes tests

How red are the whites of your eyes? Can you post a picture?

It may just be dryness or a mild viral keratoconjunctivitis.
