Bit worried; changed sensation in toes

I’m nearly sixty. Active. Female. Over the past four months or so I’ve started getting an altered sensation in my toes. I am fairly sure it started in my left big toe at the end of the summer. It would just feel a bit numb at night.

Now I have started getting it in my right big toe and next toe along and it happens sometimes in the morning as well.

It’s intermittent.

Very recently my right hand has started to feel a bit wierd like it’s slow to close a fist but I have been doing a load of typing and it could be my imagination.

i went to the doctor and they just dismissed the toe thing as something that happens when you have been on your feet all day.

It’s got slightly worse since then. Should I be worried?

I had this, it was really weird, it went when I started taking magnesium.

Oh that’s interesting. Thanks MrsPelligrinoPetrichor!

If it is the same sensation, it is indeed wierd. Numbness is the only way to describe it but it’s not totally numb.

I would go back and ask them to check your vitamin b12 levels. I believe this is a common symptom with low vitamin b12.

hobbledyhoy · 23/02/2024 08:03

Do you drink alcohol? Reason I ask is I've had similar in my toes for years and I can go weeks/months without any numbness but I often find if I have a couple of drinks then it can flare up and I notice it again.

hobbledyhoy · 23/02/2024 08:05

I should add I take a list of vitamins now including
B12
Magnesium
Turmeric
Vit c, D
Zinc
And have done for a while and tend not to have it so much. The more strict I've been with diet, the less I've had it

I drink very little alcohol as I find I don’t metabolise it very well nowadays. I’ll keep note though when I do and see if there’s a connection.

Thank you hobbledyhoy I did wonder if it was dietary, esp sugar related, as although I’m not diabetic, there’s the obvious connection between feet and diabetes.

Thanks, I will follow that up about B12 Killerqueenie. Again that’s not a symptom I was aware of.

This is taken from the NHS website. So definitely a symptom.

Sorry you'll need to click on the image to see the whole thing. Looks like it's missed out the main bit but you will see it if you click on the image.

Thank you again Killerqueenie I will follow it up!

Very interesting that list of symptoms! 🫣

But better than many other things that it could be … I will get my levels checked.
