Blood pressure tablet experiences

Hi all,
Just wondered if we could start a thread of people's experiences of BP tablets.
I've tried ramapril and currently on losartan potassium, both of which have been ok up until the 6 month mark and then I get awful muscle pain and prickly heat on my feet.
I know we're all different but hoping to find one that may suit me!

Take low dose ramipril and amlodipine. Did have slight cough but disappeared after a few weeks. Also on nebivolol for inappropriate tachy post long Covid which also has indirectly helped bp. My bp is well controlled and no real side effects. I’m just relieved I’ve hopefully less chance of having a stroke or MI and developing vascular dementia. Fwiw I was previously very physically fit, fairly slim, no other risk factors.

I was prescribed Candesartan, for migraines. I felt quite positive about taking it as I was desperate to reduce the number of migraines I have but I experienced awful side effects & had to stop taking it after two weeks. I had a horrible, constant headache, nausea, insomnia & tinnitus.
Now I actually have high blood pressure and am very nervous about trying any of the blood pressure medications as they all seem to cause similar side effects.

I felt the same about starting a statin after taking so long to find a BP med I could tolerate but I have no side effects so far. It's a worry but you might be absolutely fine and if you're night there are other options.

I was prescribed Amlopidine after I had a scary spike whilst having a minor skin biopsy. I had also done the same when I had an accident last year. I left it late really, probably had high BP spikes for years, DM didn't help that in her last years either. Very challenging. Anyway, I digress. So Amlopidine worked on the BP but I had terrible flushing and my toes went bright red in the evenings. Having got rid of flushing with HRT I wasn't going to put up with that. Also headaches, and weird pulsating in veins. Now on Losarten and no side effects at all. BP still steadily dropping. Also lost half stone, and making the effort to go walking every day.

I think Amlopidine is the first try, cheap medication, but side effects are common although DH seems OK on it.

Thank you. I was told by my GP that Candesartan is a well tolerated BP medication but like you, I felt like I was being poisoned.
This is a helpful thread as I can see that different options work for different people. I am still hoping the high blood pressure is a temporary blip, while I am living through the nightmare of caring for my Dad with end stage Dementia, so putting off trying any more drugs as I can't face the risk of side effects again.

I take Atenolol and Ramipril - no side effects at all . Been on them for years.

Lisinopril 10mg a day. Since 2019. The only BP med I've ever been on. I frequently forget to take it 🙄 I'm going through early menopause and that has plenty of 'side effects' lol! So I'd probably think
any BP med side effect was menopause anyway. Definitely not had the famous dry cough Thank goodness
