bad ovulation pains?

Does anyone else get bad ovulation pains? My come about 2 days after I have loads of vaginal mucus, in middle of my cycle. They last between 2 - 4hrs and are like really bad period pain cramps. They make me double over and stop in my tracks. Then they suddenly dissapear and don't have them again till the next month.

They stopped when I was on the pill, but I've come off it recently (2 mths ago) and these pains have started again. I did have a scan 2 years ago because doc thought there might be cysts on my ovaries but they found nothing, everything totally normal and healthy and I've had a good pregnancy and birth since then.

I am assuming they are ovulation pains because they are so regular and fit in with my cycle. They are really horrible though and am wondering whether it's worth asking GP again or am I just an unlucky person?

Any experience?

I get these too. For a few hours I get a heavy feeling, like I've got bricks in my abdomen. This is followed by a sharp pain on one side (egg being released I'm guessing), then after a few hours it goes. The whole thing can take the best part of a day but painkillers usually reduces the discomfort.
It is useful to know definitely when I'm ovulating though.
btw, I've only had these ov pains since having my DSs.

I've had these for years, and it's not nice. Mine is like a cramp like gripping pain across my abdomen. It stops me in my tracks as well, and makes me want to sit down sharpish. It comes and goes from ovulation until a few days before my period starts. It's gotten better for me since having my DCs though.

oh yeah...I have those, and they change sides too each month!!!

I used to suffer from PCOS, and believe me, the pain is LOTS different. apart from anything, ovulation pain lasts less than 6hrs for me, altho the ache lasts all day IYGWIM, and also coincides with the clear mucas too!!! (oh, and the 'lust' than comes with the release of hormones too!!!)

I get very sharp ovulation pains on the same day of my cycle each month. They can last up to 4 hours and sometimes I can't even stand straight. For some reasons they are worst when I pee!

They help in TTC as I know exactly when my egg is bring released and even which ovary it is released from.

getmeouttahere · 24/03/2008 20:21

Yep, I get ovulation pains.

For a day or so mid cycle, I get a heavy, dragging feeling (to the point sometimes of not being able to stand up straight) and the occasional stabbing sensation which changes sides each month.

This also coincides with egg-white, stretchy mucous and that loooooving feeling .

Its bloody ironic really because for years I didn't ovulate and had to have treatment to conceive my two dc.

I consulted my GP about it (also get very heavy, lengthy periods), had lots of tests and everything was OK.

Same as the others - for 2-6 hours, often on one side, and I feel like I've got a huge pressure somewhere inside

AND it hurts when I sit down, a really bad pressure pain high in my arse

Bluestocking · 24/03/2008 20:26

Me too. They're called "mittelschmerz" and apparently about 20% of women experience them. But, as Artichokes says, makes TTC a cinch.

and avoiding TTC

if you are a bit of a GAMBLER

not me obviously

me23 · 24/03/2008 21:47

yes I get them too, mine last the whole day sometimes two days. last month I had the worst ones ever! was doubled over in pain for 2 hours felt like I was in labour.

ChipButty · 24/03/2008 21:50

Yes - some months worse than others.

mollymawk · 24/03/2008 21:51

I get these too (not as badly as you describe though). I looked them up once (on the internet, so it must be true) and apparently the side you feel them bears no relation to the side the egg has come from.
