Hiya.

Not sure which section to put this in. Apologies if wrong one.

I need some advise please. I brought some kotex sanitary towels 3 years back. How do I know there in date? I looked at the number and still can't figure it out.

Please can some one help. Here is the number on the sanitary towels.

I like to use them after my child section. And these were wonderful

Thanks
Claire

Erm how could a sanitary towel go out of date?

DeadButDelicious · 19/02/2024 13:09

Not entirely certain how one goes off to be honest...

Greensleevevssnotnose · 19/02/2024 13:10

I'm sure they last forever

Needmorelego · 19/02/2024 13:10

Yes.....what do you mean by "in date"? They don't go off 🤷

Rosesanddaisies1 · 19/02/2024 13:10

They'll probably last forever, as evidenced in landfill. Are you thinking of tampons, as they do expire.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 19/02/2024 13:11

There's a number on there you can phone them seeing as you are worried.

Needmorelego · 19/02/2024 13:11

@Rosesanddaisies1 do they ? I've never heard of that.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/02/2024 13:12

They don't go out of date. They are just a plastic liner with a cotton wool liner and a cover material much like a wet wipe, but dry.

Twistylemon · 19/02/2024 13:51

Oh like most of you - I would have thought they wouldn't expire. But looking at their website along with tampax site and other sanitary products websites. They do go out of date 🙈😒😒 which is so wasteful, I'm sure you would agree. It's 5 years for tampax 🤔

It's to do with higher exposure of risk to infection and things like that if using ood 🙄🙄

honestly I would use.
I can understand why tampons might have a use by date, but even then it seems a bit daft.
But pads? really not. They are not sterile. You wear knickers in the same place, and they are definitely not sterile. Can't imagine that a pad from a clean packet is any less clean than knickers.

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/02/2024 21:46

I reckon it's a sales gimmick.

Devonian88 · 19/02/2024 22:00

I wouldn't think twice about it personally, I've never ever even thought about an expiry date on STs.....

WhatNoUsername · 19/02/2024 22:07

What the hell happens to a tampon or pad kept in a box that would make it go off?!?

And what wouldn't happen to it within 5 YEARS that would suddenly happen after this point???

Twistylemon · 20/02/2024 07:13

I suppose it might be like a bandage, or guaze 🤷🏼‍♀️ or that sort of thing 🤔

I will be using them.

Op they're not biodegradable. There are some that are, but they're usually individually plastic wrapped anyway to avoid moisture getting in.

They are an ecological nightmare, so I think on that basis, you'll be fine.

I am not criticising as I use them too.

Grimchmas · 20/02/2024 07:30

I think they will be fine. Not kotex but I didn't have periods due to birth control for around 10 years, and when I got then again I used up the old always pads I had in my drawer without any issue.
