It’s not that bad… is it?

Hi all

I’m having 2 wisdom teeth removed tomorrow morning. I’m absolutely petrified and I’ve been having terrible nightmares now for a few weeks!

One has come out completely but the other is under the gum mostly.

I’ll be having them removed under local anaesthetic.

is it really that bad? I have a busy weekend next weekend which is unavoidable. Help!

Well, I can only speak for having wisdom teeth out that are fully erupted. No problem whatsoever, out faster than I could have thought possible. Remember wisdom teeth only have 2 roots, not 4 like the larger molars.

Good luck OP, hope it goes well for you!

I had the same. Honestly, it was absolutely fine. No pain at all (apart from the initial injection, but that's quick). I practised thinking calming thoughts during the procedure.

Don't be afraid to ask for more numbing, it's never enough for me and I can feel the pressure

You might have some bruising and a little swelling on the side that wasn't fully erupted. Don't plan to eat anything chewy for a few days afterwards.

It will be uncomfortable for a few days, which is how I would describe it rather than painful. A bit tender and sore but manageable with some OTC painkillers.

Are they upper or lower? Lower (apparently) tend to be trickier. I had one lower removed that was partially erupted. The procedure itself was straightforward, tooth came out fine in one piece, however I had a lot of pain and swelling from day 2 onwards. I went back on day 3 and the dentist had to nick my gum because it hadn't clotted well. All in, it was about 7 days before the pain and swelling started to recede.
