Recovery after Mole removal

Hi there,

I have to have a mole removed on my back. They said they're going to take a little extra skin around it and then stitch it up. They said I have to be careful afterwards not to do anything that will rip open stitches.

I'm a care worker so very physical job.
Do I need to take a couple days off afterwards?
Can I ask work to arrange light duties for me doing another role, can they do this?

I'm only entitled to SSP, I guess I could take some annual leave instead Although I really wanted to keep for school holidays.

Thanks in advance ☺️

I had one removed on my back last year. It was very sore for a couple of days (I couldn't lean back on it, for example) and I was told no bending for a couple of weeks - mostly to avoid having a stretched scar.

I think I was pretty ok after a few days and just tried to be careful to make sure it healed - I really wasn't too worried about having a "perfect scar".

Thank you. Oh no, no bending could be a problem. I'm not worried about a scar just concerned about work and losing income. Also I obviously don't want it to be cancerous.

I've had some off. Depends where on the back it is. Shoulder blade is going to need time off as bending could be an issue with the stitches. Lower down to the side not so much. I felt fine after a couple of days

I would ask for light duties that doesn’t allow lifting or stretching for a couple of days, depending on where on your back it is.

I've had one removed today and I've been signed off which I wasn't expecting. I work in a very similar role to you. I had two removed from my shoulder blade.

Depends where on your back it is. How big is the mole? Do you know if they're doing a punch biopsy or cutting it ?

I had one off my lower shin which I had to rest as the skin is very tight and stitches were precarious when I flexed my foot. and one on my forearm which was business as usual the next day. Just covered it with a plaster till the stitches dissolved but I cooked dinner and changed the bedding the same night with no issues.

If it's an area of loose skin you'll be grand, if it's a tighter area you'll need to be more careful.
Hope the biopsy comes back negative for you.

I had one removed from my back, didn’t take any time off work but did stupidly remove the butterfly stitches with the dressing and had to get my mum to stick me back together 😬. You ma be fine to work, depends if you do any heavy lifting.

I had it done yesterday and I'm trying to take it easy. I have stitches that have to taken out in 2 wks and have a gauze over it at the moment which can cone off on Sunday.
It's a little sore and definitely wouldn't be able to do my job yet as very physical.
