My kids have and it was fine. But DS got dry socket from using a straw, so don’t suck anything after.

The pain is fine. But the crunching noises whilst they do it are 😬

Had this done twice in recent years, molars both time. There isn't much pain afterwards, and not for long. I took paracetamol for a day or 2 and was fine. I did get dry socket the second time, which just left a nasty taste in my mouth. But it wasn't too bad overall.

Is your appointment at 2:30?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I've had teeth out. They'll anaesthetise everything, so you won't feel it, however there are some odd sensations and noises that I wasn't expecting. A bit of pulling and pushing.

Afterwards, I don't really recall any discomfort or pain and it all healed fairly quickly. It was all fairly straight forward.

I had a bad headache and felt tired for two days, you may not feel up to much the next day.

I recently had an upper wisdom tooth out. It was much quicker and easier than I expected. I had a really powerful, quick-acting anaesthetic, but yes I did hate the crunching sensations and it felt at one point as though my whole set of upper teeth was being pulled out.
I didn't really get any pain afterwards, though I took ibuprofen as suggested, it just felt a bit strange/uncomfortable for a couple of days.

I've had 2 wisdom teeth out. The actual procedure is quick and painless but you can feel them poking and feel pressure, I think they push the tooth further in and wiggle to loosen it, they don't yank it out mafia style like you would imagine.

Afterwards, take a few hours to sit still and keep the pressure on the socket to stop the bleeding, dentist will explain what to do.

Afterwards, it wasn't painful, I was back to work the next day and if I took anything, can't remember, it was only paracetamol.

Good luck, as someone with a phobia of the dentist it was honestly not as bad as I was expecting and was over with really quickly.

I'm having a bottom molar out in a couple of weeks. Luckily my dentist offers sedation so that's what I'm going to do. I had a wisdom tooth out this way a couple of years ago. I was given painkillers for a couple of days afterwards which really helped. I was back at work the next day but with a massive bruise on my face but this was because my wisdom tooth was still under the gum so tricky to get out.

AllLopsided · 18/02/2024 23:58

I had two wisdom teeth out under sedation 20 years ago and it went very smoothly, pain afterwards controlled with ibuprofen and paracetamol, and maybe sone otc codeine.

Not trying to scare you but... I had a third out a couple of years ago - the tooth broke and the dentist had to drill it out. It wasn't painful as I was well anaesthetised but it meant it took a while and the pain afterwards, when the anaesthetic wore off, was horrible. If this happens make sure they prescribe you some strong codeine just in case! I think some dentists aren't aware how bad the pain can be - I was told to take paracetamol but luckily I had stronger stuff at home.

Good luck.
