Unsure if bloated or weight gain (pics included)

Hello,

I need help identifying if I have put on weight or I am bloated. My stomach has been like this for at least the last year and if there is an issue I want to address it. I think I have body dysmorphia and so I am really struggling to know my body at the moment.

I have deffo put on weight the last 2 years even though I generally healthy and active, however my stomach is so round, I'm struggling to figure out if it is bloat or fat.

My parter and I are TTC and so if there are gut health issues I do want to address it. Alternatively, I don't want to go to a GP, waste their time and look stupid if I have just put on weight and I can't tell.

So what should be happening from
the gp is bloods including ca125, a physical examination, a transvaginal ultrasound in case of ovarian cysts or a fibroid. Your GP has fobbed you off.

Its bloating sweetheart

Get yourself a GP appointment ..

anunlikelyseahorse · 28/02/2024 19:16

Did you see a 'proper' GP or assistant practitioner? Either which way that is not good enough, you need a proper examination.
You might be better off with a female GP. But you need a second opinion.

The OP has been to the GP.

Definitely get a second opinion.

ScabbyHorse · 28/02/2024 19:46

I had similar symptoms as you (very bloated, someone told me I looked pregnant) and the doctor tested my ca125 levels which were raised. Then I had a scan at the hospital and found out I have adenomyosis, not to worry you but the doctor was concerned it could be ovarian cancer. I got the mirena coil and started a low inflammation diet and it's cleared up quite well.

LovelyJubbles · 28/02/2024 19:50

Is there a chance you could have PCOS? I have it and my belly goes like that

Justwingingit2005 · 28/02/2024 20:32

Does the bloating come and go?
If it does that's not as worrying. If it's like that all the time you need a ca125 and an ultrasound.

dottiedodah · 28/02/2024 21:23

Maybe try another GP or A and E? This is not a normal tummy and needs some investigation

Definitely get an urgent second opinion from another GP but it's neither an accident nor an emergency so not A&E.

Offleyhoo · 28/02/2024 21:35

Don't want to worry you but you must go back, don't wait, and ask for another appointment to include a physical examination, and as others have said, a CA125 blood test. Please ring first thing.

endofthelinefinally · 29/02/2024 11:19

Agree with pp saying you must go back. Ask to see another gp. The one you saw is a disgrace.

WinkyTinky · 29/02/2024 11:25

I was exactly like this around a year ago, but also with pain and so I went to GP and ended up having various tests including CA125 which was high. Thankfully that wasn't an indication of anything sinister, but during the vaginal examinations, a few polyps were found and the consultant whipped them straight out, which I wasn't prepared for, but it was honestly like popping a balloon. I could not believe the difference. All bloating instantly gone. Ask for a check for this OP.

Viennabear · 29/02/2024 11:44

Appalling and neglectful behaviour from a medical professional. Probably very unlikely to be anything sinister given your age, but should be ruled out. Make another appointment ( with a different GP) and ask for an examination and blood tests. Refer them to the NHS guidelines related to your symptoms if they continue to be unhelpful.

mrsrobin · 29/02/2024 11:56

OP - that is a ridiculous consultation from that GP. If there was no examination, I would insist on an appointment with another GP. I had a very large cyst removed a few years ago but I didn't even notice any bloating at time time. Like PPs have mentioned, it could be various things that need dealing with.

Astonishing. I've been in with several issues over the last year related to gynae and I've had a full exam of my stomach each time.

Good luck with getting a repeat appointment. That is not going to be fixed by a big bowel movement.

Droolylabradors · 29/02/2024 12:19

Fyi my stomach was like that recently when my coil was pulled out slightly by the practice nurse who did my smear test. I had 5 days of it that size and I was crawling the walls.

Guttedme · 29/02/2024 13:47

Sorry, you are a dead ringer for pictures of skinny girls I've seen with Fibroids.

These medics are so hands off I know the first time I presented with incontinence issues at A&E the senior nurse asked me rather then feeling if my stomach was distended. I couldn't believe it.

Young people do get problems

I had clockwork periods but had severe endometriosis. I had large ovarian cysts. My belly looked like that. I would see a different GP!

LibbyLemoncake · 13/03/2024 14:22

How are you now @OliveDreamer, did you ever find out the cause?/Try a different GP?

OliveDreamer · 13/03/2024 14:49

Still yet to find out the cause, I have a gp appointment booked for next Friday (earliest I could get and I booked that last week)

Laxatives made no difference really apart from me shitting my guts out for the past few days 😅

Attached a photo of my stomach today - this is after eating barely anything for the past few days and a gluten free bagel for lunch

We have just found out I'm pregnant (5weeks)🥰 so hoping they take me a bit more seriously at my next appointment but will be requesting a different doctor for sure

LibbyLemoncake · 13/03/2024 16:42

Oh congratulations on your pregnancy But yes hopefully they’ll sort out what’s causing it soon.

Mummame222 · 13/03/2024 16:55

@OliveDreamer How hard is it? It doesn’t look like a typical distribution of weight gain but it could be. Is your tummy hard? Does it hurt?
