Horrid rash over most of ds

MNersanonymous · 23/03/2008 20:09

Ds has a rash over much of him. It's bumpy, red and not particularly itchy.
I'm thinking it's probably contact dermatitis but any ideas?

He's totally fine in himself and happy - no other symptoms so I'm reluctant to haul him to our local hideous out of hours walk in GP service where we'd have to wait ages to be seen.

I might take him to the pharmacy tomorrow though.

Does anyone know if I can post a photo on here somehow of the rash?

you can set up a profile and post picture on there if you have a digital camera.

I'd take him to see pharmacist tomorrow. Ours is quite good at that kinda thing, they should tell you if you need to see a dr.

You should have a pharmacy open somewhere in your area if you are worried enough to see them tonight.

Does it fade under glass?

shelleylou · 23/03/2008 20:12

it could just be a virus ds had a rsh over most of him ad it didt bother him but there are so many rashes only a gp would be able to diagnose properly. You could upload a photo onto your profile

Thanks guys - will go to the pharmacist tomorrow. If I had any doubt over his health being at stake I'd go tonight but given he's fine I just can't face it!

I'm sure it's not meningitis type rash as nothing like that and he's generally well.

Ok I've posted a pic of the poor chap's botty so you can see the rash. I feel bad posting his bum on here but will erase it once replies are received!

you need to make your profile public - it isn't showing up.

MNersanonymous · 23/03/2008 21:54

oops - pic should be visible now and show the rash in all its gory glory.

hmm why am I not surprised that no one wants to look at a pic of a toddler's bum covered in a hideous rash!?! It's not that bad a sight you know!

is it rough?

I would guess virus or allergic reaction. Been using anything different lately?

MNersanonymous · 23/03/2008 22:16

Yes it is a bit rough. I have used a different detergent for a few week but not sure if it can be that as it is on his face a bit too. Sheet was washed with old detergent so that couldn't be the cause unless it can spread somehow.

Allergic reactions can spread over body. Can be caused by any thing with it on being in contact with any part of his skin.

Ds gets a rough rash (starts as tiny little spots and then sort of spreads inbetween) but that is caused by his chin or bum (whichever it appears on) being constantly damp. When it gets bad we treat with canestan (as gets fungal).

Who knows.

Rashes are always interesting.

Pharmacist tomorrow sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Armadillo for replying. Hope your little one stays rash free for a while!
It's not pretty is it!

SaveScrabulous · 23/03/2008 22:38

oops name changed earlier for another thread from pre-name change days and didn't change back

My daughter has just had scarlet fever and had a rash all over her body (even on her ears!)It was rough like sandpaper but didn't seem to be itchy.

She has also had viral rashes in the past. I would see what it is like in the morning and if you are worried get it checked out.

SaveScrabulous · 24/03/2008 19:41

Well the doctor at the out of hours service thinks it is a fungal infection called pityriasis but I'm not convinced.

He wasn't the most impressive doc I've seen. Still he's given some cream that should help anyway with the inflammation as it has hydrocortisone in plus the anti fungal ingredient.

It says on the packet not to use it on large parts of a small child but he has the rash all over so not sure how I'm supposed to do that.

TheArmadillo · 25/03/2008 11:22

Appreciate this is probably a bit late now, but check with pharmacist over cream?

It could be fine.

hope it starts disappering soon (and that your ds is better wiht cream than mine - 'but I'm just going to wipe it off mummy' )
