Wheezing right lung

Hi,

As always I’ll preface this with saying I suffer massively from anxiety so will need a hand hold.

For a few months now I’ve had a feeling of a lump in my throat (comes and goes), feels like I need to clear my throat a lot and coughing a bit more and maybe mild voice change such as a little hoarseness (no one except me notices thus) and I suffer from mild reflux of sorts.

In October I had a bad cold which gave me a wheeze on and off.

While trying to figure out the cause of the throat issues I’ve been on two lots of antibiotics and steroids.

I have tried inhalers too but I’m left with a bit of a wheeze, it goes for a few weeks and comes back. I hear it on inhaling lower down in my right lung, I feel it when bending sometimes too.

I’m terrified it’s lung cancer, I’m a non smoker late 30s.

Last week I had an endoscopy to check my throat and everything came back normal.

I’ve requested an x ray so hoping I’ll get that in the next few weeks.

Has anyone experienced mild wheezing on and off in the lower lung and it turned out to be ok?my mind always jumps to the worst possible scenario and terrifies me.

I've had this after pleurisy. You couldn't hear the wheeze but breathing deeply felt like scrunching up a crisp packet or those crinkly baby toys, right at the bottom of my lung. Mine was a pleural effusion, small enough to be managed conservatively (didn't need to be surgically drained).

I'd have thought asthma would be way more likely than lung cancer? Especially at your age and having never smoked.
It can often be triggered by a virus. In fact in young kids before they officially diagnose asthma it's called "post viral wheeze"
Do you have an asthma nurse at your surgery? Could you try and get an appointment with them?

Anxiousmum09 · 19/02/2024 00:16

@ChrisPPancake how were you diagnosed with pleurisy? Might sound like a stupid question.

the baby toy thing sounds very similar to my noise at times.

it’s not always constant and comes and goes.

@Samsond no asthma nurse at my surgery. My GP said adult onset asthma is very rare but did suggest possible allergies.

Would the viral wheeze be possible even after only a very mild cold?

I appreciate both of your responses.

@Anxiousmum09 I don't think adult onset asthma is that rare. My MIL was diagnosed last year so I know at least one person. Also I had asthma as a kid, grew out of it as a teen and it has now returned in my 40s following a chest infection. Do you have allergies generally? Excma? Family history of either?
