About 7 years ago i was diagnosed with candida albicans in the gut by a nutritionist.
I had had skin problems for years and once she put me on a special diet and supplements it finally cleared up (long, expensive process that took about 18 months).
However i had to give up all sweet foods including sugar and imitations of, honey etc etc, even fruit for a couple of months in order to starve the candida and kill it off.
Supposedly i was supposed to stay of the sweet stuff for good, except fruit which i am allowed.
Having little will-power i am now back to square one. The last couple of weeks i have been waking up with a stomach ache down the left hand side of my belly, where i know the colon curves round. I thnk it's a warning sign that i've messed up my gut and so i am now considering going back on the diet.

Is anyone else battling with candida? I need a diet buddy and some support...i do love my chocolate

DW has systemic candida, and it definitely responds to this diet.

It's difficult, as I love cooking and indeed only this evening I have made chocolate cookies, orange cookies and bread. DW assures me that the candida is on the run though.

You know yourself what the answer is. Hope you find a diet buddy and get it back under control.

Hi SM (great name, by the way!), I have not been formally diagnosed with candida, but my nutritionist strongly suspects it and has recommended that I follow the sugar free route too.

My symptoms are recurrent thrush and skin irritation and I feel that I am not fussed about getting a formal diagnosis if I know what the solution will be anyway.

So ... as a huge sugar addict (I get massive sugar cravings, particularly in the late afternoon and evening) I find the whole no sugar thing quite hard. BUT ... I would rather go through that pain than have thrush constantly.

Shall we be diet buddies then?!

Triathlete - unfortunately candida never seems to completely go, it comes back instantly if I overdo the sweets

ScotsBird - I have now given up sugar (as of yesterday). I am going to very slowly drop the things which make it worse and try to get back to the anti-candida diet i was on years ago. Thing is i am still bfeeding DD2 tho mean to give up soon if she'll let me, she's 18 mo, so i can't really do any drastic candida-killing treatments as i don't want the die-off toxins the candida give off to affect her.

I'm a Scots bird too but live in Spain. Where are you?
I'd be glad to have a diet buddy as I've done this before and know how hard it is.
