Burst ear drum? Should ds go to the Dr?

DS is 2.5. Was really crotchety yesterday. Slept badly. Ate nothing yesterday evening. Has had a cold recently.

Was sick twice this morning, with a slight temp (37.5 so nothing to write home about).

Slept on sofa for 3 hours. Just woke up, generally happier and HUNGRY. Had an ice lolly, as didn't want water.

I've just noticed that there's yellowy watery stuff coming out of his ear. Doesn't smell. Like watered down earwax.

My questions are:
given that he seems happier and less pained should I give the Dr a miss (it being easter sunday doesn't help)

Does this sound like a burst ear drum?

Would that tie in with the sickness, or perhaps he just has 2 things going on at the same time?

Thanks thanks thanks in advance.

This happened with DD many times between age 2 and 7. I gave up going to the Drs with her. She got better with or without antibiotics and exactly the same time.

However, because it happened so many times, she has been left with a slight (20%) hearing loss on her left side.

If he's happier and in less pain, then no need to rush to the doctors. In my experience, the ear starts oozinf once the infection is starting to clear up.

So, what I was going to say is.... if the gunk is now coming out, there is little the Dr can do anyway. I seem to recall (although it is many years ago) that Dr only gave antibiotics when she was in pain. The pain always stopped when she got green/yellow yucky stuff coming out.

The ear drum will have burst because of a build up of pressure due to an infection. The pressure could have made him puke. He prob needs antibiotics for the ear infection - the ear drum can re-heal but then burst again due to the untreated infection.

Phone your GP or phone your local walk-in centre (if you have one?)

I would get some antibiotics as a precaution. DH burst his drums and ended up being admitted to hospital as his ears had got infected and he was in a lot of pain. He had of course been diving in a murky loch whish your DS is unlikely to have done.

Hopefully he's okay. My friends drums burst after an infection and she said the relief was great.

Thanks all - bit of a 50/50 split about go to doctor/don't go to doctor.
Thing is, he had ab's for impetigo 10 days ago, themselves 2 weeks after an ear infection (which he had ab's for).
Oh I don't know! We are truly the house of ill at the moment.

No, no murky lochs as far as I am aware.

if he's prone ot ear infections, it may be worth getting his ears properly checked out and some point to see if he needs gromits.
