Hayfever already??

poppym12 · 15/02/2024 10:13

Is anyone else already feeling hayfever symptoms? I thought it was maybe a cold starting a week or so ago but it hasn't progressed. I've needed my blue inhaler a few times (not usually in winter) and have a weird headache. Today I've got prickly eyes so I'm thinking hayfever. In February?

I am allergic to tree pollen (not sure which specific ones) so could this mild weather be causing everything to bloom early?

mine is here too, i am using fexofenadine and hayfever eye drops. it seems early and v bad this year! I also too piriton as that wasn't enough but it sent me to sleep.

poppym12 · 15/02/2024 10:27

I'm sorry to hear you're suffering too @Nitgel. I take fexofenidine daily topped up with piriton. Best get some eye drops too and maybe a decongestant to try to ease the headache. Sounds like it could be a rotten spring pollen wise if it's starting this early.

Yes, itchy eyes. Like you, tree pollen does it for me.
So far, it's not been bad enough to need antihistamines, but it won't be long.

poppym12 · 15/02/2024 13:34

I'm surprised mine is so rubbish @TeabySea, especially this early. I'm wondering if I've developed an allergy to something else too.

Me too, mine started this week. Also tree pollen. 😞

CherryRipe1 · 15/02/2024 13:43

Yes. As soon as I spot a green shoot or a bud I know the sneezing, sore throat and runny nose will commence.

Scampuss · 15/02/2024 13:44

Mine never stopped 😭

MadisonAvenue · 15/02/2024 13:52

My eyes have been itchy for the last week. Took me by surprise as it seems so early, and I’m yet to find an eye drop which works for me.

Oh wow, I thought I had it bad. Poor you.

Yeah, I think it goes from pollen to leaf mould and then the pollen starts again. It's crap.

People who don't have it don't understand how debilitating it can be.

Cars covered in pollen today! Both DH and I feeling snuffly.

Lots of blossom trees fully out today. A white one at the bottom of the garden was so full of bees, the noise was loud, and they were knocking all the petals off! Crazy. Also saw some humongous bumbles and a Brimstone butterfly. Very warm day

They really don't. I didn't even develop it until my 40s!

Oooh I wondered what was all over my car today, assumed it was Saharan sand as we get that every now and then.

I'm doubling up on antihistamines as of this week so yes, I've got hay-fever already too.

We havent had any cold here in the deep south, no snow or anything. So the ground has barely frozen.

poppym12 · 15/02/2024 19:33

I take fexofenidine all year round which helps a lot but I definitely need something extra during tree pollen season. It really is debilitating.

Not just me then. I've always had it, but this is the 5th year it's been utterly extreme. As well as the the usual, I get asthma attacks, migraines, itchy rashes all over, and occasional nosebleeds with it. It usually starts towards the end of March and is over by August. Last year it was March 7th, and this year February 26th! I thought about just treating the symptoms this early in the year, but tend to get it so, so badly that today I've started twice daily nasal spray and daily antihistamines. Loratadine for now, but will switch to Fexo when I get worse, and double up at times in April/ May/ June. I'll end up on steroids for my chest anyway! I have the eye drops too. My eyes get bad. I need to put together a bag for work with inhalers, eye drops and tablets, to keep on me all the time.

CherryRipe1 · 04/03/2024 14:44

I'm on a no upf diet for autoimmune issues. No gluten, sugar, alcoho, little red meat etc etc & weirdly my symptoms are not as bad as they once were & naturopath said that's not unusual. Maybe it's just my age. Does hayfever go in cycles? I wash my nose & eyes out & smear Vaseline in nose & around eyes & lashes. Also use one of those diode thingies that look silly like Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Think it helps.

poppym12 · 05/03/2024 09:17

I feel your pain with the asthma and all over itching @ScruffMuffin. I've only needed my blue inhaler once or twice throughout winter but I'm having to reach for it by 10am most days at the moment.

I wonder why it's so bad and so early this year?

Can hayfever also give you a sore throat . My eyes feel gritty and my nose is stuffy thought maybe it was the start of a cold .

Yup, that sounds like me until about September now.

I get immune every few years so have to rotate treatments. Currently using Avamys spray, and clarityn tablets. They don't make me too drowsy. Having my immune system in a constant state of upset does though.

ScruffMuffin · 05/03/2024 14:25

Yeah, I switch it up. Currently on loratadine, and have fexofenadine lined up too. Also nasal spray, eye drops (haven't needed much) and usual inhalers. I've been experimenting and have discovered that my very mild and occasional oral allergy syndrome has worsened. I got a tight chest with cherries yesterday, and experimented with walnuts today (occasional culprit). I was fine for five minutes, then got the sore throat and mouth, then itchy eyes and nose, a few sneezing fits and finally wheezing that needed an immediate 4 puffs of Ventolin. Bummer... but good to know.

Skibbidino · 06/03/2024 13:30

Mine started late last week. Very bad today though!
