....ds (who's 3.5) has it. the red spots have just started to appear last night, more today.

how long do we have until the itching stage starts?

hopefully it wont be tomorrow, so we can go to the chemist monday...

is there anything else to be recommended in dealing with them?

thanks in advance!

nelsons teatree antiseptic cream - it is the BEST thing in the world for the spots, used it on myself a few years ago and dd1 when she got them

calpol, anti histamen - get them free from pharmacist on minor ailments scheme

you can also put oats in a sock and run the bath water through sock - will ease itching too

good luck

yes, the pharmacist should be able to give you certain things without prescription, I got loads of stuff for dd's chickenpox without having to go to dr

not sure if you'll get the teatree cream on it but boots will have that and they should surely be open on a Sunday?

and if you want to go down the herbal route, Rhus Tox is good too. You can get calamine cream these days which is much easier to apply than the lotion and you can also put bircarb on soda in their bath which is meant to be soothing.

Depending on how bad your DS has it you might make it through until Monday, I seem to remember that days 2 and 3 were the worst. But it really does depend on how badly he comes down with it.

Good luck!

i know we dont have much in the house for itching now, some antihistmine cream we got since we have nettles around the garden (in case we got stung), some medised, calpol....
gonna cut his nails in the morning (or should i sneak in and do it now while he's sleeping in case he wakes up itchy and i dont hear him?)

thanks dizzychixies - tomorrows easter! no where will be open short of garages (i think they are open!)

won't there even be a duty chemist open for an hour somewhere? can you check the local paper?

dizzychixies · 22/03/2008 21:43

oh sod forgot sorry
am afraid we have jobs where we work regardless so these things sometimes get overlooked

would cut them now but then I'm a night cutter anyway lol

americantrish · 23/03/2008 08:44

i did cut his nails last night while he was asleep. (he woke up a bit, but was ok.)

he's itchy today so i'm keeping him in my sight. thankfully, it's snowing, so he's a bit distracted.

thanks forkhandles, i'm gonna have a check the local paper online to look for a chemist...

i couldnt find anything about any local chemists being open
i also read that the anti-itch cream i have isnt recommended for c. pox

hopefully the garage is open today and i can get some bicarb of soda and plain oatmeal..

i guess the timing of this isnt that bad, his nursery is shut this week and i'm off work on holiday.

now, must think of more ways to distract him (and me!) this morning. we can't watch tv all day! ;)

Germolene is the best thing for itching..it has a mild aneasthetic. It stopped both my dds scratching and one of them had it really badly. Just a tiny little dab.. and it moisturises a little too so you don't get crusty scabs. I think you might be able to gat germolene at ASDA or TESCO even.

Same problem over Easter! DD (27 months) started getting spots on Thurs. All seem to be scabbed over now, thanks to lots of bicarb soda baths and 'eurax' cream. She now has a chest infection and gooey eye though which we've got antibiotics for. Couldn't get a doctor to come out so had to take her to the surgery, when I said she was probably still contagious they just said 'sit in the corridor'... oh of course because viruses don't like going round corners! She seems better tonight. Sods law that it's always over a bank holiday weekend that you need to get something from the shops! Hope your DS is starting to feel better too.
