and realy struggle to get shoes to fit me. I'm wondering if its worth getting them removed. I've heard that its very painful to have done and that you can't walk for a long period afterwards. Has anyone had the procedure done?

Yes, when I was 21. It was the best thing I could have done. I only had one done but I was non weightbearing on crutches for 2 weeks then weight bearing ofr another 4/5. It was a bit sore but nothing a bit of morphine didn't sort

I had mine removed because I was in a lot of pain, esp in winter and if I'd driven anywhere for more than an hour. Its a bit easier to get shoes now but my feet are still an odd shape!

How easy do you think it would be to look after 2 pre school children after the op?

I am in a bit of pain with mine and find it painful to walk very far (mainly because my shoes always hurt!). I think my reasons to have this done may also be because of my vanity. I have ugly feet and can't wear fashionable/pretty shoes!

Hmm, I think you'd struggle, esp for the fisrt couple of weeks when you're non weight bearing. I only had one removed (the painful one)and I was a student at the time. Didn't stop me going out on Xmas eve and getting drunk!

I too have ugly feet and other orthapaedic problems. Can't wear sandals as I trip over them.

If you can get help for a couple of weeks, I'd certainly say get it done (although some bunions are inoperable).

I had both of mine done at the same time a couple of yrs ago. My DC were older than yours though and I had loads of help. Basically I wasn't able to do very much at all for about a month. I decided on having both done together because I didn't want to have to go through all the recovery twice iyswim. The people I know who've had them done one at a time manage to get about. It does take a good long while to completely recover, but you should be able to get into good fitting (comfy) trainers by 6 weeks(ish).

I am VERY glad I had it done, it's made SUCH a difference to the sort of shoes I can now wear, you have my sympathy.

mine are enormous and my toes are bent at a funny angle. The podiatrist gave me orthotics for my trainers as I was tearing my achilles so much but what I really want is.....................
oh, God, to wear lovely girly shoes.

Hmm, maybe I should see about getting it done.

I had one of mine done a few years ago, it was very painful for a few weeks afterwards and still gets sore at times, not nearly as bad as pre-op though.
