Calcipotriol

Has anyone ever used Calcipotriol for hand eczema? The doctor has switched me onto it from Topical Steroids. I have been using it for 10 days but have to say I am struggling with it. I tried Tacrolimus for a week without any effect, then switched to Calcipotriol but it seems very harsh and my eczema has been slow to clear up, not to mention it now seems to be spreading up my wrist and arm.

No wisdom I'm afraid. There seem to be a small number of people who use calcipotriol and it makes things worse... worth checking with GP if you think that might be you.

I've been on corticosteroids for psoriasis for many years never well controlled and was recently given calcipotriol.

It made my psoriasis seem very angry and red, but when re-examined by GP she said that it had worked as the scaling had stopped, and to move off it and back onto the steroid cream to reduce the redness.

I did so and I must say it's been almost perfectly clear and I've been symptom free for the longest time and after about 2 weeks started to scale again and have started on the calcipotriol again.

@puritascordis Thank you for this. There has been some small improvement for me at the original eczema site, but it seems to be gradually spreading out from that. My instinct is that I should stop the Calcipotriol and switch back to the steroids now. I don’t want to because I have a condition that may be made worse by topical steroids. What a long old slog managing eczema can be!

Sounds like a good idea to me OP! I genuinely thought mine was worse, but once I then switched onto the steroid the improvement for me was dramatic, far better than just with the steroid. Hope it works out for you.

@puritascordis Thank you. Mine sounds very similar to yours. I switched back fully onto steroid and it is so very much better now. I have been weening myself off for the last three days now and there’s no sign of it returning. And something about it this time round makes it feel much better than if I had just whacked on the steroid alone.
