What counts as pre-existing conditions for insurance?

Trying to buy travel insurance and unsure on what I would need to declare.

Last year i self referred myself for CBT via the NHS talking therapies for symptoms of anxiety. I've never seen a dr for this or been formally diagnosed but I continue to attend CBT session for symptoms of anxiety. I don't take any medication....would you declare anxiety as a preexisting condition in these circumstances

Similarly my son has had an assessment for autism, however he's being monitored and therefore no outcome/not formally diagnosed. He doesn't take any medication or anything like that. Would that be a preexisting condition if not diagnosed? I'm thinking no need to declare.

Aviva say this on the matter... "With us, a pre-existing condition is when you’ve had symptoms, medication, advice, treatment, or tests for something before taking out health cover. This could be for any disease, illness, or injury. And if you’ve had symptoms or tests for something but haven’t been diagnosed yet, we’ll still count it as a pre-existing condition."

I'm not sure anxiety or autism would be a huge concern but you'd have to speak to the provider. They seem more worried about illnesses such as diabetes, cancer or back pain that could require treatment or hospitalisation.

Hi OP. I would declare anxiety for myself based on what you've said. In relation to your son I'd put that he's had an autism assessment but has not been diagnosed.

Insurance contracts are contracts 'of the utmost good faith'. You need to err on the side of caution in deciding whether something needs to be declared. If you don't declare something relevant then the whole policy can be voided. So, be careful and tell them how it is Flowers
