Hi guys so I’ve had my surgery 24th jan, so roughly 2 and a half weeks ago.
I had glued wounds which I find more annoying tbh , but anyways I must have been itching and didn’t realise I itched the wound, and when I checked it the scab /glue was off, and when I placed a tissue on some blood was going on the tissue. There isn’t any blood leaking out or anything it’s just if I place the tissue there.

I did ring the ward and they were useless they just said to go to the gp nurse if I’m worried which doesn’t help me rn lol.

should I be covering the wound, or is it normal and shall I just let it scab up itself again.

Since it’s been 2.5 weeks and there isn’t excessive bleeding, I wouldn’t be too concerned. I’d just keep it clean and watch for too much bleeding.

What does your discharge notes say, I would presume the glue has come off and it still needs to heal over. I would cover it in case you are tempted to scratch it, if it becomes red raw looking I would call GP and see if you can see a nurse who may need to dress it.

If it's weeping I'd probably stick a plaster over, but so long as it seems like it's sealed I wouldn't worry too much.

Think they usually remove stitches on non glued stuff after about 2 weeks, so it should be fine I'd have thought.

I've just double breast surgery & the same happened to me. I went to the clinic and they put some wind dressings on. Have had minor bleeding.

Consider going to the gp nurse, they are usually easier to see than doctors. I had similar to you recently and they were great as soon as I said I’d had recent surgery. Gave me a generous supply of waterproof wound dressings and said they kept daily appointments open for wound care if I needed it. Maybe I’m just lucky with our practice.

91BlackCat · 11/02/2024 19:57

OP, I had GB surgery on the same day as you!
I had the same problem where part of the scab came away and revealed about 4 mm of open wound which ended up infected. I went to the GP and was given antibiotics and advised to keep a dry dressing on ( not provided, I bought several from pharmacy). It still hasn't closed yet, but infection clearing up. My sister is a nurse and said it will heal eventually, from the inside out, and there will be more of a scar.

Cocobellax · 11/02/2024 20:18

@91BlackCat heyy surgery twin haha!
was it bleeding a lot?
mine doesn’t seem open as such as it’s not bleeding now it just had tinge of blood when I put tissue on it to check it.
To go to the doctors I’d have to take my unwell toddler out and pay for taxis back and forth so I don’t want to really go unnecessarily.
any advice you have would be amazing xxx

No, it didn't bleed much.
I would try putting a dry dressing on during the day, but remove at night to 'let the air get to it'.
Try for a couple of days and see what happens.

Mindymomo · 11/02/2024 20:45

If your GP is anything like ours, GP will ask for a photo to be sent to check if it needs seeing to, maybe useful if you cannot go to GP.
