Experiences of Non alcoholic fatty liver disease

NAFLD

My dd has just been diagnosed with this and been told to make lifestyle changes and have a repeat blood test in a month or so (which will be 3 months after the last one).
She had an ultrasound a week or so ago which showed up the fatty lumps and no scarring thankfully.
The issue with the lifestyle changes is she is disabled with chronic pain so upping physical activity is very difficult for her to do.
They didn't even mention checking for other possible causes (under active thyroid, cholesterol or diabetes) and I have asked her to contact the gp again and ask for these to be checked. She could work really hard at changing her lifestyle, which obviously would be beneficial for her and not a waste, but for it not to have any affect on the fatty deposits because they might be due to something else.
Has anyone else been diagnosed with this and if so, what did you find helped? She really doesn't drink at all, maybe a small glass of fizz at Christmas and on NYE, or half a can of cider with a bbq for example. She is mid twenties and has been on medication for a long time, which might be a contributing factor but not mentioned by the gp.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is caused by a build-up of fat in the liver. It often affects overweight or obese people. Although NAFLD doesn't usually cause serious problems, you should take steps to stop it getting worse.

Isn't it generally dietary? The name non-alcoholic fatty liver disease indicates it is not down to her drinking, per se. It is usually poor diet. Weightloss from dietary improvement and reducing sugary foods and so on will help.

If it's related to type 2 diabetes, again that is largely poor diet for most people; ditto high cholesterol, which she may or may not have as well - so the lifestyle changes are in regards to changing her diet.

She doesn't have the greatest diet tbh. She is quite limited what she can eat due to allergies (dairy) and intolerances (gluten) and some things due to textures. I agree it could be better and would help a lot.
The cholesterol could be familial; her dad has polygenic cholesterol which he has 6 monthly injections for.
She has wondered about her thyroid for quite a while though. She gets pressure on her neck which she wondered if it was the glands swelling up.
Anyway, she has had the other tests added to her blood tests so we shall see what they show.

I had it (and now also have prediabetes) and was told to reduce my fat intake and to lose weight to reverse both. I have also been recovering from a knee op (also caused by my previous weight issues) so have been doing daily chair exercises (find them online) and swimming to boost my metabolism. It seems to be working as my last bloods definitely show an improvement :)
