Composite filling to cover tooth root

When I went to see the dentist they said that from over brushing I have worn the gum on one tooth and so it has receded leaving some of the tooth root on show.

They have advised to have a composite filling to cover the part of the root that showing to stop sensitivity and to protect the root.

I have not really heard of this being done before so wondered if anyone else has had this done and can there be any negatives to doing it rather than leaving?

I had this done about 4 months ago. Didn't need an injection as they weren't driillng anything away, and no pain etc. Only downside was the cost!!

Thank you for the response. Yes they advised it would be quick to do and no injection. Have you found it helped with sensitivity?

Hi how much tooth root is showing and does it hurt at all?
I had a brace when I was 15 that cut some gum clean away exposing more tooth than you’d like, I’m now 40 and have never had any problems with tooth or gum and have no filling on it.

It really should help with sensitivity, ask them to put some fluoride on when they’re finished too.

I've had this several times. It's great! The alt is fluoride treatment which is also great if it works.
