Daniel (3 1/2) came out in chickenpox on monday morning, we're now nearly at day 6 & the spots are still coming!!!!

He's at a bit of an awkward age, he won't let me put anything on his spots!!!!! I've only got calamine lotion on him twice the whole time, and he cried so much the 2nd time we gave it up as a bad job!! Now he won't let us anywhere near him with anything lotion / cream related. He won't have a bath so i can't try anything there.

He's not seeming too itchy, but he's seemed in pain today, like holding himself up over the loo instead of sitting down & wincing a few times when he's moving around.

I'm at my wits end, he is COVERED in spots, in his hair, all over his face, arms, torso, legs, even on his willy!!!! I'm giving him calpol & piriton, even that is a struggle!!

I'm praying that tomorrow he shows improvement, i've never seen anything like this at all, absolute nightmare!!!

Oh yeah, and i have a 1yr old girl who's not had it yet ... so we'll have to do it all over again in about 10 days time, argh!!!

Any advice, thoughts, words of wisdom for me??

Poor thing and poor you. I had the nightmare of all 4 of mine having Chicken Pox a few weeks ago.

Porridge oats in a sock tied over the bath taps so the water runs through makes a very soothing bath. DS4 spent most of the week in th ebath.

I found Claritin syrup worked well as Piriton didn't touich my lots itchiness.

HTH - hopefully you are over the worst by now though.x

Bicarbonate of soda in the bath?

aqueous cream with calamine lotion is a lot less drying than the plain calamine (ask the chemist for it). I second the porridge oats thing. Can you dose him up on piriton and then try with the lotion/cream when he is a bit drowsy?

Mine had it a few weeks ago and I feel like I'm still recovering. I was exhausted by it all.

Mine wouldn't let me put cream/lotion on either and DS2 particiulrly had some in some very uncomfortable places, as you describe.

If you can get him in the bath, both of mine slept much better after a bicarb bath. Mine were reluctant for the first few days, but came to enjoy the relief. Hopefully you're through the worst of it with DS now, the only thing I can suggest is to try and keep him busy to take his mind off it (easier said than done I know)

Friends whose little ones have had it have found that very young children like your DD don't seem to suffer as much, so fingers crossed for you.
