Armpit lump and sore swollen gland on collarbone

As per the title I’ve had this sore gland? On my collar bone for 10 days now and was just checking my breasts when I’ve found a large, soft and painless lump in my armpit. The obvious thing to do would be to try to get a gp appointment but my mental health problems and my autism are making this very difficult. Firstly I have such low mood I can see no value in my life. Secondly I absolutely hate being touched. Has anyone got any wise words for me or been in my situation?

It will only get dealt with by seeing the GP, ask for a female if that would be better for you.
Do it tomorrow morning and then update us 🤞🏻

You have to get this checked out. Even if you hate being touched. The touching part will be very brief, probably about 2 mins. Your life is very important. You are the only one like you that has ever lived or ever will live. There are important things for you to do, in this short life. Like noticing all the small things, like how beautiful the sky is at sunrise and sunset. You have not yet seen this year's daffodils, and then the bluebells, the frogs and toads mating in the ponds, and the little squiggling tadpoles. You haven't yet seen your first butterfly of 2024. Your life is very important as it is yours to enjoy, and you only get one. So go and get that examination. It will be two minutes of your life that you won't enjoy, but then it will be done, and you can treat yourself to something nice afterwards, like a hot chocolate with whipped cream, or whatever you fancy:

Yes, please call the gp in the morning for a same day appointment. I’ve been depressed so understand it is difficult to motivate yourself, is there someone else who could ring for you?

I don’t really want to tell anyone else about it. I don’t want people to worry. I’m a very private person really. I’ve just remembered my gp surgery have got an online form I can fill in requesting an appointment. I think that would be easier then they would phone me.

You need to see the gp and they will get you checked out. I had similar, I wore a best with this strap so I could be more comfortable while I was checked out. Ask the doctor to talk you through where they are/will touch you as it might make you more comfortable. I had very similar only mine wasn't collar bone or was back of my neck and armpit. I needed blood tests, had ENT appointment and an ultrasound on it and everything was ok in the end up and it was all very quick, much quicker than I imagined given how everyone talks about the NHS. Please be strong and get checked

You must see the gp first thing.

BlackBoxes · 07/02/2024 09:51

How have you got on, did you fill in the online form?

You have done well by telling us about it. Please tell a professional in real life who can take you forward one step at a time.

Your life is valuable - logically; you are living it already, and it therefore has utility and gives you pleasure within certain boundaries. If, today, you can find the strength to flex those boundaries in order to get some professional support, I hope it is because you see there is value and worth in doing that.

The form sounds an excellent way to get in touch.

Wow, came on here whilst I’m sat waiting for my drs appointment, I have exact same thing! I have various other symptoms alongside this too so I wasn’t really going to mention this lump today (feel like I’m being a bit stupid maybe it’s just fat etc 🫣) but I’ve had it since December now so if you want I’ll let you know what they say.

mudsweatandtears · 07/02/2024 11:04

It’s all gone smoothly so far. Had a phone call at 8.30 offering me an appointment with a female gp at 10. She was lovely and confirmed the lumps so she has referred me on the 2 week pathway to the breast clinic. Just got home and received a phone call from gp asking me to go back in for urgent blood tests so just about to go get that done. I’m feeling all touched out if you know what I mean. Thanks for all your support so far, it gave me the push I needed.

Sending a none touching hand hold and a smile at the 2024 butterfly's upthread.

crankypanky · 07/02/2024 11:32

Thank you! Mine went the same as yours. Fingers crossed everything is okay for us both x

BlackBoxes · 07/02/2024 12:13

Brilliant you are on the right road, well done for doing something you feel uncomfortable with.

QueenOfThorns · 07/02/2024 12:21

Great that you’ve seen the GP, OP, I can see that it wasn’t easy.

Just FYI, I was referred on the 2-week pathway last month. The breast clinic appointment came through really quickly - it actually took place only a week after I spoke to the GP. I can’t fault the service at all - the clinic was super-efficient and everyone was kind and respectful. Just be prepared to wait a while - take a book or something, and a drink and snacks. Fingers crossed that everything turns out OK for you (my news was good).

Congratulations. A big step as you are now in the system. Touched out - yes, I am sure. But you have been a brilliant advocate for yourself when you needed to be, and that is a great achievement.
