when do I worry about ds's sickness and diarrhoea?

he is 14 months old. he has basically had sickness / diarrhoea for over a week. the sickness has been on and off, but the diarrhoea has been constant.
I thought we were over it, but he is vomiting again. before today, he was last sick on wednesday (just the once), and before that I think it was sunday/monday. I think the sickness started last friday, but I have a vague recollection of him having diarrhoea before then.
It was all clear yesterday (but still diarrhoea), and then today he brought up his lunch (boiled potatos) and his tea (baby rice, followed by 2oz formula).
he is not too bad in himself, apart from being whingy as you would expect, but I can see that he is losing weight.
the doctor reckons his sickness was prolonged by some antibiotics he was on, but he hasnt had them since tuesday. he has been eating bland foods (and he is obviously ravenous), and I am encouraging him to drink lots of little sips of water.
he has wet nappies, but not as wet as usual. and his poo is loose and yellow.

is there anything else I can do for him?
does he need to see the doctor again?

(and btw, anyone who followed my holiday-cancellation saga - yes, I am glad we didn't go now!)

Baring in mind his age I would contact your on call GP or NHS direct 0845 46 47

my doctor was rubbish - just said - it's been going on because of the a/bs (which he hadnt had for a few days anyway), and it'll clear up soon.
his attitude made me feel like I was worrying about nothing.

I will try nhs direct..

My ds (same age) has just had a very similar sickness bug, although more sickness than diarrhoea. It also lasted a week and he has only just starting to feel better today.

The doctor we saw was really good and said the main worry he had was how hydrated ds was. He did a full check on ds to make sure he couldn't spot any other signs that could be making him ill. I was told to bring ds back in or call if he was still ill in a couple of days, but other than that keep him drinking as much as possible.

When i visited my mum in Oz she had some ice pop things that were for rehydration, they contained salts etc that you lose from your body when your ill or had too much sun... i wonder if they do something similar over here?

I hope your ds feels better soon

I hope he will have Electrolyte Rehydration Sachets prescribed something like Dioralyte, Rehidrat If it was you that had it I would just suggest you went out and bought them but being only 14 months they really need prescribing. Young children babies and toddlers can get really irritable tummies from a simple infection and sometimes they need more of a rest than an adult would.

thanks everyone - particularly pinkem. it's reassuring to know someone has come through the other side of this.
nhs werent all that useful tbh. I guess that means its nothing to really worry about.
they said about keeping him hydrated (which he is), but I will try the rehydration stuff as I'm concerned he is losing nutrients etc.
thanks!
