I'd phone 111 and ask their advice. If they send you to urgent care/A&E they'll maybe be able to get you an appointment time so you're not sitting around for hours.

silvershark22 · 03/02/2024 08:34

Thanks will see what they say. Tbh feel to unwell to be sittoing arround as am only comfortable bent over with a heat pack

I had a kidney stone a few weeks ago which I could pass without treatment. It may sound daft, but one of the most effective sources of pain relief I've found over the years is with the heated seats in my car. Works a treat.

silvershark22 · 03/02/2024 18:21

Nakes sense heated seats would be good i am using electric blanket.

Did you get a solution? Hope you're starting to feel better

Have been prescribed antibiotics pain meds and stuff to stop vomitting said to come back if worse as about the timescale for an absess to start to develop.

Please does anyone have any info on this. Any nurses? Dh told this week, needs a kidney stone removal. We knew this. Stent for a few weeks, I've read it is not uncommon. To have to use a stent, but isnt it normally into the stomach?

But penile. In the penis. For a few weeks. And why? Just why? Why would they do this? Rather than a stent anywhere else? They go through penis, up into bladder to obliterate the kidney stone. But then they then leave a stent in the penis, presumably in the penal shaft for weeks. Why on earth would this be a choice. How can this be anything other than incredibly painful?

I've searched and searched but there is no info about this, specifically, unsurprisingly.

My understanding is that stents are put in via urethra/bladder but are placed in the ureter (tube from kidney to bladder). The urethra (tube from bladder to outside world) is wider so stent wouldn't be necessary.

I'm not a bloke or a urologist though..

Dearover · 11/09/2024 20:08

It's providing a wider exit route for the pulverised stone.

BatFacedGirlll · 11/09/2024 21:03

I refused a stent as they increase the risk of infection. I went for lithotripsy and no stent which was not a walk in the park by any means but meant I didn't have to have the stent fitted

This is ringing loud alarm bells for me. My sepsis was caused by blocked kidney stone and kidney infection. I was vomiting, fever, didn’t want to go to hospital but DH insisted and thank god he did. It was sepsis and they caught it in time.
Go to A&E now!

ArmchairOlympian · 11/09/2024 21:12

Just realised this was February!

I had a kidney stone removed on Monday and I didn’t have a stent put in. I had it removed by urethrocystoscopy and blasting. They removed most of the stone during the operation and was only left with fragments to pass.
Recovery has been fine and I haven’t required the pain killers prescribed. I am feeling very tired.
I had a stent while waiting for an operation. The opening between kidney and urter was too narrow and urine was backing up. I didn’t find it comfortable when running or doing any physical activities, it scratched. My stent was in for 8 months. Your DH a stent won’t be in for very long.
Hope the operation goes well.
