My BF has been away for just under 2 weeks and apart from Isabelle's (who is now 6 and a half months) cough she has been fine. Now he comes back and her cough has got worse (thanks for all your advice..am going to take her to the doctors when I have time )she now also has a very runny nose and behind her ear it is very crusty and weepy. IT looks red and sore - it only covers about 1 cm and is in the flaps of skin beneath her ear lobe. SHe also has three small spots about 2cm beneath her ear. Are the spots realed to the ear? Has anyone else had a baby with a gummy ear? My mum suggests it may be fungal? ANy idaes or suggestions of what to do till I can get that illusive doctors appt.

It sounds like it is just accumulated spitup etc. that needs cleaning. Remember the old adage..."clean behind the ears." I had the same problem with my ds until I realized I had forgotten to clean behind his ears. Just give it a good clean with soap and water...I find that a wet cotton bud is useful. If it does stay red, your mother is probably right and it is a touch of fungal infection. Canistan will work just fine on it (it has the same ingredients as the baby stuff).

My two get that, so do I sometimes. I usually leave it alone, or put a bit of sudocream or vaseline on it. I must not clean my ears well enough LOL. DS1 gets it a lot and he's prone to eczema so I expect some skin types are more susceptible.

DS2 used to get htis and I put Hypercal cream on it. It's a "natural" antiseptic cream which I got from Tesco's pharmacy. It worked like a dream - I used to put it on a few times a day and before bed. And cleaned it well with cooled boiled water & cotton wool. It cleared up in just a few days.

Just to let you know (thanks for your advice) it turned into Impitigo (I am no good at spelling at the best of times - just ask my class of 7 year olds! let alone a stange medical word), but her cough is nothing to worry about. SO we are dousing her with medicine which she spits up about as fast as we put it in. And the doctor thinks I am hopeless - I was this crazy woman. I was late and hot and stressed. Then dd wouldn't let me undress her, so I had to yank her jumper off, bending her arms in all kinds of strange directions while he just sat in his chair giving me a strange look and then I lost her sock which he found under his desk!! ERGHH I hate doctors at the best of times..never mind!!!
