Ive bought a bionaire compact and really wanted to put it in my sons bedroom tonight due to awful cough.

Ive taken out the blue tank (top part) but when I fit it back onto the base, the water starts bubbling and moving down into the base, is this supposed to happen? Because there is a little area with slits that you can see inside- all the electric wiring, and this is getting wet.

is the water supposed to go down and is that area where i can see the wires safe?

thankyou

Hi, I'm not sure if with got the same one but the water bubbling and moving down into the base is normal. It then goes past the heating element and comes out as steam, as you may guess I'm not very technical. I can not see any electrical wires when I look into mine thats why I'm wondering if we have the same one (I've had mine a few years now)but there is a metal spring at the bottom of the blue tank whick releases the water out, is it definitely wiring you can see or the spring because I shouldn't think the electrical wiring should be getting wet.

HTH if I have.

Going to have a bath now but will check back later.

Hmm. it doesnt look like a spring. Can see two plastic coated wires...inside a sort of box shape bit of plastic, say 2cm high, with slits all around - bit like a fence, into which i can see what i think are wires...

thankyou morgansauntie

I'm back I've now got mine apart and so far I can not see any wires or anything that looks like wires all I can see is the spring and heating element which looks like the sort of thing you find in the base of a steamer. So I guess we have the same make but not the same model. Hopefully somebody else will come along who can help.

In a way I'm glad that you've posted as I have just found out that mine really needs a clean, a job for tomorrow I think.

I have mine because of chronic sinusitis and it does help. So I hope you can get yours working soon, good luck with it and best wishes to your son I hope his feeling better soon.

I've just googled your one and its different from mine, I have a bigger one but I now like the look of yours mine is less portable. I think I can see the bit your referring to from the picture I've found but I can not see a close up. The water seems to be drawn through that part to the heating element so I guessing (and its only a guess) it might be ok for the wires to get wet if there protected but obviously you do not want to take any chances if there is a child involved. The Bionaire Europe website is down but there is a customer services number you can call 08000523615 for advice.

thanks MA, I tried it out (took a risk) and seems ok... the water doesnt actually go in.

Not sure its making much difference, third night with it on and he is coughing v badly. The cold mist just looks like it rises for a few centimetres then makes its way to the floor. Doesnt look as though moisture spreads through the air...but what would I know.

thankyou
