Eye test fears

Hello

I need some hand holding please. For the past few weeks, I feel I've noticed a few visual changes like small sparkles, halo and starbursts around lights etc. I am 90% certain something is wrong. I also have severe health anxiety. I should also mention I'm short sighted (-6.50 both eyes with astigmatism). I have finally built the courage to book an OCT eye test which is in 1 hour and I am so worried I feel sick.
I am worried it could be a retinal tear, glaucoma, MS, brain tumour.. i have googled everything. Please help. Has anyone had eye issues like this that's turned out to be nothing/minor and am I alone in feeling so much fear?

Sorry OP haven't experienced this but well done for booking an appointment. When was your last regular eye test?

EBearhug · 31/01/2024 11:21

Getting it looked at is the best thing. I hope it goes okay.

Do thry know you have health anxiety?

Abs811 · 31/01/2024 11:24

@Ahhhhhbisto it was 12 months ago but they didnt have the OCT scanner back then and I guess a lot could change in a year..

@EBearhug no they don't but I'm afraid they will think I'm being silly if I tell them. I don't mind the tests, it's hearing the results that I can't bear...

I am on my way there now

Good luck @Abs811 and well done for getting it checked Flowers

Star burst in vision is a sign of impending migraine for me.

In waiting room and feeling so nervous....
Thank you all, I will update

Symptoms are typical of Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD) not uncommon with short sightedness, and not serious, many older people get this ( I had it about 10 years ago in both eyes, am now 77). But can also be a symptom of retinal detachment too, so always needs checked out quickly. Good luck!

I hope your eye test has gone well. I went a few years ago for a similar reason, getting lots of sparkles on the edge of my vision rising up. I also googled it and thought it might be a sign of something wrong with my retina. Everything was ok for me and they said because the sparkles were in both eyes, it wasn't to do with retina issues. I had the scan where they take a picture of the retina and both looked very good.

Thank you all for your support. My tests were all clear! My retinas, optic nerve and everything is healthy! I am relieved I had it done!

Fantastic news!

tobee · 31/01/2024 16:11

Think the lights/halo thing could be due to the stigmatism?

Glad everything ok op

EBearhug · 31/01/2024 17:58

Glad it's okay - well done for going!
